Legitimate Malware Software?

I apparently allowed malware/adware recently, and am looking for legitimate software to disinfect my Mac.

Is there a particular anti virus product that Apple recommends for MacBook? Is there a particular anti-virus product that Apple recommends for MacBook Air. I think there was an attempt at "phishing" on this device. The intervener suggested that my MacBook was compromised and I needed to call a number for help. I called the number, but became suspicious (He wanted me to pay +$200.00 so I just ended the call.) I think I need to install an effective MalWare or other product to provide protection.
