If I have Hide Alerts on a conversation with an individual, will I still know if the person messaged at all?

I pressed Hide Alerts on a conversation with a person and then ended up deleting the entire conversation from my phone. If the person messaged me, will their conversation be in my messages?

Hi EV1080,

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. I understand that you'd like to know if you've selected to "Hide Alerts" for a certain contact and erased the previous conversation with them, if you'll be notified the next time they send a message to you. I can see why you'd reach out for clarification on this; I'm happy to help. When you choose to "Hide Alerts" for a conversation in Messages it will disable audible alerts, as well as banners that would normally appear on your Lock screen. You will still see a red badge notification on the Messages app when you receive a new message from a contact you've chosen to "Hide Alerts" for; check out more information here: Use Messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

While you will still receive new messages from this contact, your previous conversation history will not return when they message you again, it will be a new thread.

Best Regards.
