cant access app store

Hi just bought an 8plus and backed up from 6; all fine except can't sign into the app store - message says 'Your apple id is only for purchases in the UK store'. I'm then redirected to the app store & a message says 'cannot connect to app store'. I've tried a software reinstall, changing apple id password, checking the date & time set up, & checking country (UK). Does anyone have any other suggestions? :-)

iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 11.4.1
