Upgrade from 10.6 to El Capitan, can't login in App Store

Hello.

From my Mac on 10.6.8, I understand that I must first upgrade to El Capitan.

I've found a link that opens the App Store and proposes to get El Capitan.

But :

- When I click the button on App Store, I'm asked to log in.

- When I submit login/password, I have a notice saying that my account is not validated, was not used on App Store yet, payment method is missing.

- Then a 2nd notice saying that I must upgrade to the latest MacOS version in order to be able to provide a payment method. So I'm stuck: to upgrade my OS, I'm simply asked to upgrade my OS...

I've tried to log-in in a browser and provide a payment method there, but that does not make any difference.

Help please!

Best regards,

Brilnius.

Thank you for your replies.

The model number is A1224, from mid 2007. So from what I read I guess it can run El Capitan.

I tried to change the payment method to "None" on my web account, but the result is still the same.

Does it includes if I install Itunes on a Windows PC, and add a payment method there?

Thank you again.
