I had water drops spelled inside my macbook air and the screen went very dim, I can see it when I open it in sunlight. I took it to a technician who told me to replace the LCD almost 500 dollars. If the screen is still working and is just dim, do I have to replace it entirely or can I just replace the inverter? Which is way way cheaper.

When you have a liquid damage, it's very difficult to say exactly wich parts you have to replace. The LCD is a module so for me it's impossible to change only the inverter. It could be the LCD connector on the Logic Board.
So if you want a good diagnostic bring it to an apple store.
Both could cause this, either one or the other or in tandem. If the tech is Apple certified they should be telling you what needs to be replaced is correct, if not it's up to the discretion of the tech. Not having the system in front of us would make it difficult to determine and the only course of action we can recommend is to take it to Apple for a diagnostic.
The repair shop was not a certified apple store or Apple repair center that’s why I needed to double check just in case the whole screen does not really need to be replaced.
