iPhone – PDP (Packet Data Protocol) Authentication Failure – on AT&T system

Recently traveled outside the US. Received a text msg from AT&T encouraging use of an International Package. Selected International Day Pass.

Upon return to US. Noticed that Data Download on the ATT cellular network was disabled.

Voice, Text, Data Up and Download via WiFi all worked fine. Seemed odd.

Replaced Sim card, Reset Network Settings, Reset All Settings, Power off, Power on, and ATT refreshed the phone profile at the ATT system level. All done with ATT Technical advice. Still No Joy. No Data Up or Download through cellular network.

Source of Problem: AT&T lowers (throttles down) the plan capacity to transmit and receive data over the cellular network when the device (iPhone or iPad) is outside the ATT US area of service. However in some cases this does not automatically reset to normal levels when the phone returns to ATT US cellular service area. This has been a problem since June of 2018.

Solution: Notify ATT Advanced Technical Team of your exact sequence of events and get in line. It is not a device (iphone - iPad) problem.

I suppose it makes sense for ATT system engineers to allocate Cellular Data capacity elsewhere or to the reserve margin if the system has been informed the phone is outside the US and on an International Plan.
