I have what looks like water spots on the outside of the watch screen. Apple care said this was considered “normal” wear and will not cover it. Any clue on why this happened and what I can do to buff these spots off? The Apple tech said it looked like the coating was coming off so I’m hesitant to use anything to try and buff it out. I have a salt water swimming pool and wonder if this could be the cause.
If the spots are literally small and clearly defined like dried water drops you could try a damp cloth as Apple’s advice in support document Cleaning your Apple Watch - Apple Support.
If that doesn’t work please don’t use abrasive compounds like one recent user who used toothpaste 😮 to polish away all the oleophobic coating.
The oleophobic coating can’t be restored. It is relatively soft and is expected to wear slowly during the life of the watch, but loss in discrete spots seems unusual. Is it possible your watch got splashed by some kind of oily compound or solvent, maybe fuel blowback when you filled the car, or spitting from a bad tempered frypan?
Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately using a microfiber cloth would not help and it appears to be the coating that is causing this effect Which to me seems to be a defect. Anyway to restore the oleophobic coating?
