Why do I not get text notifications for only one contact?

One possibility is that you have "Hide Alerts" turned on for text messages from that contact. Open the Messages app and slide that text conversation to the left in the main Messages window. If it says "Show Alerts" tap that and alerts will be back on for future messages.
