MacBook Pro can't find iPhone for Apple Pay

Any one else having this issue? for awhile now whenever I try and make a purchase in Safari with Apple Pay I get an error message that says my Mac can't find my iPhone and to make sure it's near by, on the same wifi, and has bluetooth active. All of these things are true, I've even tried connecting to my phone via hotspot (both via BT and Wifi) and it still doesn't work.

Both have the same Apple ID signed in and the check for "allow payments on Mac" is on under settings in my iPhone.

Wondering if anyone has a fix or the same issue. I'm running an iPhone 8 with iOS 11.4.1 and a MBP with MacOS 10.13.6 (it's a pre-touch bar 2015).

Is the phone unlocked when you try to use Apple Pay on the Mac? I have gotten the error a couple of times on my MacBook Air, but usually when the iPhone is locked. No problem once I unlock it. It seems that Macs don't always detect the iPhone when it is locked.

Yes, I've tried both locked and unlocked, makes no difference. I'm hoping iOS 12 fixes this issue, but I can't test it without actually buying something. I will report if I'm still having the issue with iOS 12. It started with the High Sierra update, so I'm thinking it has more to do with that, but you never know.

It's kinda weird. I have a MacBook Air mid-2013 with macOS Sierra and it works ok. In any case, here's a site you can use to do all your testing without buying so you can try and fix the problem. It works like any other site that accepts Apple Pay, but this site won't charge your card because it's just a test widget.
