It says email password incorrect but it isn't

Hi

I am having a problem with all my apple products ipad and two iphones. First of all I can access my email on my windows desktop and the password is correct.

When I try ti apple products I get the message that the password or username is incorrect.

I initially tried deleting the email account on the phone and adding it again. No luck

I tried changing the password for my email account on the desktop and that did not solve it.

I have looked through the settings trying to find something I could change but nothing seems to work.

At one point I would initially get the error message that the phone could not connect with the mail server. then it would just say that password/username is incorrect.

Any suggestions.

Just to be sure we are saying the same thing, I am referring to enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on your AOL email account. This would be separate from 2FA on your Apple ID/iCloud email account.

If you did enable 2FA on your AOL account, then you would need to generate an app-specific password for that account to use in either the Mail app on an iOS or Mac for that account in order to access it with an error message telling you that your "password is wrong."

You would need to generate this password from your AOL account to use in the Mail app. The process to do so is different for each email provider.

okay so that was helpful. I went into the settings of my mail on the desktop to look at the two factor issue. I do remember mail asking about that and wanting a phone number but that is not the issue.

While in the settings there is something that says "allow apps that my be less secure than this..." or words to that effect. That has to be "on" as in to let the apps that are less secure. I would never have seen apple as less secure in any way but.… I switched it and tried the mail again and viola …. it works.

I hope this may be helpful to someone else because I never would have gone to that part of the settings and looked for that…..

so phone is working now and I will try ipad soon
