My iPhone 7plus pictures come out blurry

Hi everyone I seem to be having problems taking close up photos with this camera. I sell jewelry online and have to post good quality close up photos of my designs. I have it set on photo not portrait and quite often they come out blurry. What could be causing this? Thanks!

Hello,

Your photos are blurred or out of focus

If your photos are blurred, out of focus, or have dark spots, try these steps:

  1. Make sure that the camera lens is clean. If you need to clean the lens, use a microfiber cloth. If you see dirt or debris inside the lens, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.
  2. For iPhone models that feature optical image stabilization: A metallic case or magnetic lens could interfere with this feature. Try taking a picture without the case or lens, and then compare the quality.
  3. To focus on a certain object or person, tap that object or person on the preview screen. You’ll see the screen pulse, or briefly go in and out of focus, as the camera adjusts. In photo mode, try to stay steady when you adjust the focus. If you move too far in any direction, the camera will automatically refocus to the center. In video mode, you can adjust the focus before you begin recording.

If you still have issues with the focus on your camera, contact Apple Support.

If the camera works fine otherwise, ie normal distance shots, it might be you are too close or the camera just can’t lock the focus. It might be better with a different camera app that allows manual focus, if you search the App Store you should find a few, one of the free ones is Lightroom CC that I use along with Halide (not free), both allow manual focus along with adjustment for other settings.

ps. The additional benefit of using a third party camera app is that it will test the phones hardware, in other words if the third party app works ok then it could point to the original camera app software being the issue, just a thought.
