MacBook Pro 15" (2018) Keyboard "t" key repeating issue?

I bought a new MacBook Pro 15" (2018) last week and have been absolutely loving the computer. As an academic, I do a ton of typing and have actually found the keyboard quite enjoyable to the touch.


Recently however I noticed a strange issue popping up infrequently where it feels like the "t" key on my keyboard will repeat when pressed. That means certain words "tthat normally dontt have multtiple" t's appear like so while typing. At first I thought maybe I was pressing the keys incorrectly, or subtly too quickly since I do type quite fast, which led me to testing out different key press pressures and angles. I find that if I slightly press the 't' key on its left side edges, or if I roll my finger over it, it will duplicate the tt issue.


I know this was one of the many keyboard issues that plague the 2017 MacBook Pro + TouchBar models but I thought surely this could not be the case with the newly updated 2018 models...I reached out to Apple Support which suggested I reset the SMC & NVRAM, but the problems persisted after this. Today, I used compressed air and noticed that while the t issue seemed to be resolved, it immediately resumed a short while after.


Do I have a faulty device? Will this need to be repaired or returned? Pretty unsure what to do since the issue becomes quickly annoying and adds considerable time to my writing and editing.

Used Apple program (active for 4 years after the first retail sale of the unit.), battery and keyboard are brand new and working fine.

I'm in Italy. At an Apple reseller they scan my Mac, was entitled for the program, left it with me (I have to work), in 3 days the top case arrived and they changed also the battery. In 2 hours.

Sorry to tell you but it just gets worse. I would recommend that you take your computeer bck today and dexchange it for a new one. When it happens again, because it most likely will, takee itt back again. I am on my 5th onee and as uyou can see my keyboard is useless. I will beee going to Apple today or tomorrow. By the eway, my issues havee always starteed with the ee"e" keeey repeating everyonee eand a while and within a couple of weeks migratttes to to other keys and dissues. Good Luck.

Ok, now "repeating key" problem spreads from "t" to Spacebar. I still don't understand the pattern. Sometimes I can work and type like there're no problem at all. But sometimes it's just impossible to live with. Keyboard is clean - I've used condensed air - no dust at all. Also I saw on Youtube the guy who "fixed" the problem with gentle pulling keys up. But I'm not sure it's a cure. If Apple not admit the problem and fix it - this is my first and last Macbook ever.

i'm having the same issue with the "t" key repeating a lot. driving me crazy. i thought the ****** new macbook keyboards were fixed for the 2018 mbp's but i guess nott. here begins yet another round of trying to get supportt on an issue for somethting that was perfectted in the 2015 mbp and then ruined in the subsequent products

I'm having this issue with my 'd' key. Are there any updates, at all? I'm on my i9, 32 GB ram! I also put a keyboard protector on my keyboard as my sister had this issue previously, but it seems to be something wrong with the keyboard itself.

yep! took mine into apple store for repair and they confirmed the brand new 2018 MBP keyboard not working. good news they're giving me an entire 'upper case repair' including keyboard but the **** news is they said it takes TEN DAYS to repair. This is my only machine (paid over 5K for it) and now they say it takes 10 days to fix and they have no loaner machines available. I'm not sure how many other small businesses can go 10 days without their main source of work/income, but this is justt insult to injury. Apple please admit this keyboard is a lemon and it wasn't designed for use by real humans. Every time Apple makes me go through this, I am going to just buy a replacement and keep returning it within the return window until they get my garbage keyboard fixed. If Apple doesn't mind putting me through this sub-par product (compared to past MBPs) than why should I mind making apple feel the pain too?


PLEASE BRING BACK THE KEYBOARD FROM THE 2015 MBP. I'm a pro user and everyone I work with are pro users and none of us give a **** about making the laptop 10mm thinner, we just want something that WORKS. Also this keyboard is uncomfortable on the hands, and taking away the arrow key "upside down T" was a bad move from IXD pov because now your fingers don't know exactly where they are. I'm always guessing at keys these days and I hate it (don't get me started on the ixd issues with the touchbar). With thtits keyboard – aside the key repeattting issue (maybe you've picked up that my bad key is "t") – the keys get depressed even by gently resting fingers/hands on the keyboard, and always having to hover my hands/fingers is really uncomfortable. Thtis keyboard is a marvel of engineering, but not designed for real humans. Stop listening to your marketing people and start listening to your customers and interaction designers.

I'm on my 2nd 2018 13" MBP with TouchBar. Mine does double spaces and extra 't's and 'o's. Soooo frusttttrattting ! The 1st one (purchased in August) I brought to Apple store in October to address the issue, and they gave me a brand new laptop. The keyboard was okay up until a week ago. I took this 2nd laptop to another Apple store and they said it is indeed an issue that Apple has admitted to be ongoing and that it is an internal issue under the keyboard, so they will replace the keyboard and top case.

I've got the same problem on my August purchased 2018 15" MBP but at the moment it's only with my E key.


It's been happening on and off for a few weeks but not very often, just enough to make me wonder if I'm going crazy. But this week it's been happening a lot - usually I get a double E wheen (yes just like that) I press the key but sometimes I'll get the E I typed, then the following character and a random E after. It's happening a lot now and is getting worse by the day.


Guess I'll get it checked out next week but I'm not sure whether I really want to keep this thing moving forward. I can't be bothered to have to get it fixed/replaced every few months, or even less than that going by some of the replies in this thread.


Even just typing this out I've had the ee problem happen 6 times. It's just frustrating.

Macbook Pro´s running OK are awesome but you can´t do a pre-production of 3000$+ laptops and don´t test them before u get them out. If not, then that says that Apple is becoming like the rest of companies, selling products without checking them ok.


Now I´ve been 2 days without these errors and sometimes it comes back with "o", "a" or "e" key mainly.


Any of you with this error in Macbook Pro 15' 2018 laptops?
