MacBook Pro 15" (2018) Keyboard "t" key repeating issue?

I bought a new MacBook Pro 15" (2018) last week and have been absolutely loving the computer. As an academic, I do a ton of typing and have actually found the keyboard quite enjoyable to the touch.

Recently however I noticed a strange issue popping up infrequently where it feels like the "t" key on my keyboard will repeat when pressed. That means certain words "tthat normally dontt have multtiple" t's appear like so while typing. At first I thought maybe I was pressing the keys incorrectly, or subtly too quickly since I do type quite fast, which led me to testing out different key press pressures and angles. I find that if I slightly press the 't' key on its left side edges, or if I roll my finger over it, it will duplicate the tt issue.

I know this was one of the many keyboard issues that plague the 2017 MacBook Pro + TouchBar models but I thought surely this could not be the case with the newly updated 2018 models...I reached out to Apple Support which suggested I reset the SMC & NVRAM, but the problems persisted after this. Today, I used compressed air and noticed that while the t issue seemed to be resolved, it immediately resumed a short while after.

Do I have a faulty device? Will this need to be repaired or returned? Pretty unsure what to do since the issue becomes quickly annoying and adds considerable time to my writing and editing.

Used Apple program (active for 4 years after the first retail sale of the unit.), battery and keyboard are brand new and working fine.

Don't try anything else, wont work. https://www.apple.com/support/keyboard-service-program-for-macbook-and-macbook-pro/

I'm in Italy. At an Apple reseller they scan my Mac, was entitled for the program, left it with me (I have to work), in 3 days the top case arrived and they changed also the battery. In 2 hours.

So, will it reepeat when the machine heeats up? I have been thinking that it has something to do with heat. Mine will do it when it's cold now. But with each machine it starts after about a week of using it and heating and cooling, makes me think that something heats up andd that has an impact on the keyboard. My repeating will come and go too, but it always comes back.

I have a different string of keys that are problematic, than the ones listed here. I dont think the keys are relevant to the issue, more debris getting under specific keys. It's incredibly frustrating none the less, for a new purchase with little exposure time to the real world.

To answer your questions, I've had this computer for 3 months. I purchased the 13inch i5 quad core the moment it was released because I've been waiting for a quad core for quite some time in this form factor. I purchased it through the E store, it was shipped directly from shanghai to me. I have not filed aa complaint yet with Apple. As you can see there, my "a" key causes me havoc, really any vowel key drives me absolutely insane when it double taps.

I am going to try resetting the NRAM or whatever others have mentioned. I'm highly skeptical because I think it's a design flaw to be honest. The one thing I noticed is that inside accessibility in your settings, there is a keyboard section and a setting called Slow Keys. I tried this at it's lowest tolerance, and what it does it stopps keys from getting double pressed in quick succession. This seems like a haven of a feature for us with the problems, but the one area that it might frustrate you is when you want to perform a keystroke command, where multiple keys must be pressed down at once, they are therefore ignored if they are rappiddly pressed within each other. Apple could quickly fix this problem by adding a feature to the sticky key accessibility that only triggers when a single key is pressed ttwice in a inhumane rate.

Just wanted to throw in to echo the issues/concerns here. I'm 14 days into a refurbed 2018 15" and having issues with my t key repeating. Some other keys have also had trouble, but t is the main offender.

I love everything about this laptop except for this issue, and it's killing me to think of returning it over such a simple, but utterly critical, issue. I need this machine for writing and coding. Spellcheck might save me half the time, but hunting for extra characters in code is a real deal-breaker.

I haven't attempted any of the fixes yet -- trying to decide if I should just take this back today -- but if/when I do I'll report back here.

All I can tell you is that if you have seen it getting progressively worse then I would take it back and get another one. I am 8 days into my 5th and am having keys repeat sometimes but so far it isn't getting worse the way the other 4 2018 MBP's did.

Someone on another thread recommended getting a 2017 because at least those come with the 4 year keyboard program (ask to confirm though). I would imagine that at some point it will be announced that the 2018 will also be a partt (reepeat of the keys happening now) of the keyboard program too, but they haven't yet.

I have this same exact issue, but with the 'E' key and now sometimes the 'O' key. In some instances even the keys around those letters. However, very very often I will type and construct a sentence that "Loooks likee thise". Either it will double register the key-press or false-register the key-press. Other times, it simply won't register a key press. I'm not typing lackadaisically either.

I've tried compressed air thinking it may be dust or a rogue crumb. It seems to fix it temporarily but it comes back. I've tried typing in a different way, slower, etc. I purchased this laptop pretty much the same week that the new 2018 MacBook '13 Touch Bar models were released, so this machine is only a few months old. I'm basically relying on auto-correct at this point.

Did you end up getting a resolution to this? If so, what fixed it?

Have you contacted Apple or brought your computer in? If so, what did they tell you? I think that some peoplee are just not reporting it and they need to. Apple needs to extend their keyboarrd repairr program to the 2018 models too. My 'e,t,r,' keys are repeating and now I sometimes get a random period thrown in the middle of a word when I use the 'e' key.

I have the same problem and have it on my 4th MacBook Pro! I have the fully upgraded system which is over $4k and its ridiculous a machine of this value doesn't have a Keyboard that is fully functional and without defect. The sad part is that even taking it in for "repair" doesn't correct the problem. I am considering taking it back for a refund and going with a Surface Pro or something else.

Oh lord I thought I was going crazy. So the keyboard printing double letters is an issue, and it's not just me.

I'm using a max spec 13 inch MBP 2018, but honestly trying to work on this thing is almost impossible. I have to proof-read everything I write, and retype my sentences half the time.

My 'r' key is absolutely horrendous and my t key is pretty dodgy.

Just writing this I have had it happen once to r and twice to t. Tempted to leave the examples in here...

Am I going to have to take this back for the second time in a month or is there a fix coming, Apple?
