MacBook Pro 15" (2018) Keyboard "t" key repeating issue?

I bought a new MacBook Pro 15" (2018) last week and have been absolutely loving the computer. As an academic, I do a ton of typing and have actually found the keyboard quite enjoyable to the touch.

Recently however I noticed a strange issue popping up infrequently where it feels like the "t" key on my keyboard will repeat when pressed. That means certain words "tthat normally dontt have multtiple" t's appear like so while typing. At first I thought maybe I was pressing the keys incorrectly, or subtly too quickly since I do type quite fast, which led me to testing out different key press pressures and angles. I find that if I slightly press the 't' key on its left side edges, or if I roll my finger over it, it will duplicate the tt issue.

I know this was one of the many keyboard issues that plague the 2017 MacBook Pro + TouchBar models but I thought surely this could not be the case with the newly updated 2018 models...I reached out to Apple Support which suggested I reset the SMC & NVRAM, but the problems persisted after this. Today, I used compressed air and noticed that while the t issue seemed to be resolved, it immediately resumed a short while after.

Do I have a faulty device? Will this need to be repaired or returned? Pretty unsure what to do since the issue becomes quickly annoying and adds considerable time to my writing and editing.

I am on my 5th 2018 13" MBP and all 5 have had this problem. Always starts about 1 week into using the computer and always starts with the 'e' key and then migrates to the 't, s, r' keys. I am at a total loss and don't know what to do. Apple seems to say that they haven't heard from anyone but me that this is happening with their 2018 keyboards, but here I am reading on this page that others are also having this issue.

Please Apple, let us know when this will be fixed.

"Its getting to the point where apple needs to admit the 2018 models (MBA & MPB) have similar issues..."

Why should Apple admit something that isn't affecting everyone? A few people on forums does not represent the rest of us. My 2018 MBP 15" has had no issues with the keyboard. I use it daily for my work which requires a great deal of typing. Anyone with a 2018 MBP is still under warranty, so how would that make any sense to make a public admission that will do nothing but cause a great deal of commotion on social media? Apple said one word "Courage" and Macrumors forum members never stopped making snide remarks about it. Due to how social media reacts companies have to help customers individually on a case by case basis.

Hopefully you're get your issue sorted out but it's not affecting everyone. Most people across forums represent less than 1/10th of a percent of Apple's customers.

If you don't have the issue, why do you keep commenting on this thread, repeating yourself? It's not helpful at all. Lucky you, you don't have the issue. But multiple thouthands do have the same issue. And not everyone which is experiencing the same issues are commenting on an Apple forums. So, we don't care about a working model of a fanboy. Instead we're a waiting for other customers that maybe come up with a suitable solution or at least helpful information. Because my Top of the Line MacBook Pro, which cost me more than 5000€ drives me totally crazy. The Apple Support told me, that if I really need the machine, I should have bought two... Should I laugh or cry? Competitors do definitivly a better job on professional support and service.

The other guy said, that the problem went away after installing Windows, so I'll try that at the weekend.

What the heck is going on with this forum? I got email notification that their was another customer with same problems and a helpful tip/software that at least can prevent the double space issue. But when I open it, there is no new message. Is Apple or. someone else deleting all negative comments?

Speaking of this software. It prevents the double space issue. But since dealing with the defect keyboard for a couple of weeks. It now starts that the keys don't recognized at all. I don't think that the software is a long term solution. ;( I tried using the MBP with Windows for a couple of days, but it keeps happening. I can confirm that it happens more offen, when the system is on heavy load, which mine is like permanently. I also always have compressed air on my desk to clean the keyboard twice a day, which most of the time fix it for a couple of minutes.

Same problem here. 2018 15" MBP. After weeks of frustration I finally set up an appt with the local Apple store. Just not sure how long I can go without my only computer. Of course I'm frustrated by this problem, but I'm really shocked that it still exists after 3 years in on this design. I waited on the 2018 model thinking it would be fixed. Joke's on me, I guess.

In case anyone at Apple reads this (or cares) - I have no idea how many (if any) customers you actually lose from this problem, but it certainly creates immense frustration amongst those that have it. Based on what I'm reading, it appears that a replacement keyboard (or top case) won't fix the problem. It also appears that after 3 years there is still no fix. Unshaky helps the double problem, but there's no fix for when a key is missed. That's really unacceptable. Obviously one of (if not the) major reasons people purchase notebook computers is to be able to move them around. A functioning keyboard is a requirement. My machine, which cost well-over $2k, doesn't have one.

I'll leave this here for anyone curious about how I feel about this issue: - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Implied_warranty#Fitness_for_a_particular_purpose

I swapped my first one out (2018, 15", touch bar) after the space bar kept repeating about 2 weeks in. This one has been about a month. Started with the "e" then went to other letters. Apple said I'd have to send out and have the keyboard replaced, and that Apple knows about it. Really difficult as this is my work computer--tough to take a week off work for repeated things w new computers... But thanks for helping me realize I'm not crazy!

It's three times I have had my top case replaced. Still same issue. "rr" "tt" and also "." when I want a space. It seems Apple will keep replacing top case for the time the warranty legally obliged to do that. Then what? This is my work computer and I cannot afford 1) going to an apple store once and then and 2) not having my working tool for 3-4 days. First replaced in Christmas, we are in April and I need to go back to the apple store for a new temporary solution. Sorry guys but this is not acceptable. You can find devices 1/3 the cost of a MB Pro. I accept there may be issues with some batches, but after one fix, solution must be permanent. Reliability in the brand is very low on my side now.

After epic amount of BS 4 months ago to get a 2018 MBP 15" 1Tb keyboard fully replaced, my brand new keyboard replacement failed again, so now I lose my computer for another week while they do ANOTHER full keyboard replacement on it. In 15 years of being dedicated power user, this is the most expensive apple laptop i've ever owned while simultaneously being the worst apple laptop i've ever owned

My MacBook Air is now out in service for 2 weeks, because of „short supply of elements”. Interesting, because Apple claimed the number of broken keyboards is so small, so how would you explain the shortage? I know dozens of prople with butterfly keyboards and 100% of these people had their keyboard replaced at least once.

No matter how good or bad laptop is. If such a basic element as the keyboard is bad, the product is bad. It slows down your work and makes your work error-prone.
