Turning off Memories on Photos

In case anyone is monitoring this from Apple. Memories popped up today on my MacBook. It contained three people who were incredibly important to me, all of whom have died in the last year.

Thank you for sending me into a tailspin of depression, as after reading all of the answers, I apparently can not turn off this incredibly invasive option.

You can limit the creation of memories a bit, however. It will take a while, but in the long run you will not see any new memories anymore.

  • First of all, stop the notifications from Photos about new memories in the Photos Preferences > General.
  • Also disable " Photos Preferences > General > Show Holday Memories".
  • When a memory is created, block it to prevent the creation of similar memories of the same type.

Block a type of memory

You can block specific types of memories whose content you don’t want to see.

  1. In the Photos app User uploaded file on your Mac, click Memories in the sidebar.
  2. Double-click a memory that you want to block.
  3. Scroll down and click Block Memory, choose the type of memory you want to block, then click Block.

To reset Photos to create blocked memories again, choose Photos > Preferences, click General, then click Reset Blocked Memories.

Same thing here. Several years ago I started a project where I digitized and cleaned up pictures that my sister had taken when our nephews were younger.

Two years ago, one of them died of an overdose. A year later, another killed himself.

It's been a really terrible, miserable couple of years.

And yet there's no place for this reality in Apple's worldview. All people are beautiful and all lives are happy and tragedy free.

So, they randomly throw pictures of dead kids on my phone and my computer at any time they choose, throwing reminders of these dead kids and their wasted lives in my face when I least expect it.

It's incredibly thoughtless and insensitive. All we ask for is a stupid "off" switch.

We don't all live in one of your stupid ads!!!!!
