iOS 12 bluetooth sign dissapeared
I just updated my iphone 8 plus to iOS 12 and i noticed that bluetooth symbol is not there anymore. Bluetooth ON, no symbol anymore.
Everything works fine with bluetooth, but no symbol...
iPhone 8 Plus, iOS 11.4.1

I'm fairly certain this is by design. The Bluetooth Rune is no longer listed in the manual:

It was pretty useless in iOS 11 anyway since all it did was alert you that bluetooth was turned on. It did not indicate connection status at all.

Reboot your phone and see if the symbol returns.
You beat me to the punch. I had just looked at the list of symbols for the new iOS and saw that the Bluetooth symbol is no longer listed. As you said, it wasn't worth anything to begin with as it didn't provide on/off status. It was just a symbol, without much purpose.
Clearly, this is an intentional change for iOS12.
Did you power the device off and back on again?
Same thing for all of us. Apprently that was supposed to happen on this update. Very annoying as we don’t know when it’s on & drains battery a lot! I feel your pain

Wait for the iOS 12.1 update.

But that required you to turn it on and off in Bluetooth Settings. I never EVER do that. And there's really no benefit to turning BT off. BT when not connected to a BT device uses virtually no power. Either a Bluetooth device is connected and doing what it should, or one isn't. I'm not really troubled by this change. I've already been able to demonstrate my BT headphones pair and work just fine. I don't really need a little symbol to validate I can hear what's playing just fine.

.
It certainly did provide on off status. I turn on it Bluetooth settings
and it would appear. I turned off in Bluetooth settings and it would
disappear.
I am updating my apple watch now, can't restart yet. I will try after.
Yes, airpods and watch connected. I can also transfer files to my Mac, but no BT symbol.
Just sent it in. FWIW, looked all through settings in case there was
something to toggle that indicator but didn't find anything.
NO.....it doesn't drain the battery a lot. Read and Learn: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Battery Drain and other considerations
Same thing has happened with me. Did reboot, did full
powerdown restart, turned Bluetooth off then back on
in Bluetooth settings.
Devices seem to connect fine just no Bluetooth symbol.
EDIT:
BTW, this is an iPhone 8.
