iOS 10.3.3-12.0

hey!

I'm running my iPhone 7 on 10.3.3 due to last year version (iOS 11).

After only a week of use, after updating to iOS 11.

My iPhone became unusable.

Battery drained like nothing, from 8 hours of intense use to 3-4 and tons of bugs.

Luckily I were able to downgrade back to iOS 10 and I'm still there.

So the question is, Should I update to iOS12?

Am I going to get performance improvements or trashy battery life?

Apple hasn't signed it for a year. Have you kept it around that long?

I'm not denying that there are people who have battery issues with 11. As there were people who had battery issues with iOS 10. And with 9. And with iOS 8. And iOS 7. And iOS 6. All the way back to iOS 1.1. However, except 3.1.2 none of the issues had anything to do with the iOS version. You can check the history in this forum to see that. Battery issues are the result of apps that aren't working right. That's the whole story of battery life and iOS versions. Oh, and my iPhone 7 Plus got better battery life on iOS 11 than it did on iOS 10. MUCH better.

What's really interesting is the reports that iOS 12 gets better battery life and faster response with iOS 12. See, for example: iOS 12 on the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPad Mini 2: It’s actually faster! | Ars Technica

As I mentioned above, I've updated to iOS 11 a week after I bought the iPhone, And two weeks after the update I decided to go back.

I typically use 3-6 Apps and ALL of them were optimized to iOS 11 at the time.

Think about it; When Apple developing a new iPhone they are optimizing them as hard as they can in order to show a nice and rounded numbers at the keynote. Year later, The new version optimized to the new iPhones (in my case: 8, 8+ and the x). So your iPhone is no longer optimized, and most of the other models experiencing bugs and issues.

Of course Apple doesn't do that on purpose, they can't optimize the new operating system to each iPhone supported. But 25% Graphics performance drop is insane, and I can't compromise on performance so I'm still there.

As for the posts you linked, performance are varying from model to model so I can't relay on them.

The only way to go back to iOS 10 from iOS 11 is to install a hacked version. If you are really lucky that hacked version is not as we speak stealing all of your personal data. Note that hundreds of millions of iPhone have been updated to iOS 11 in the past year, and hundreds of millions of iPhones do not have any problem with battery life. Perhaps if you had tried to figure out why yours had a problem you would not have had to risk compromising everything on your phone.

I think about it a lot. And I've seen hundreds of threads across dozens of versions. If you believe the threads then every version since 1.0 has been a battery killer, every one worse than the previous version. And 1.0 was no sweetheart either. You clearly wouldn't believe all of the complaints about iOS 10, because it works for you.

But, as it's clear you have your prejudices, I will leave you to them.

I've Downloaded iOS 10 from Ipsw.com when Apple still signed it.

Their downloads are safe because they are linking you to the actual Apple server.

I don't think that I'm the only one experienced bad battery life on iOS 11, my friend also got an iPhone 7 and his battery life became even worse. Unfortunately he wasn't able to downgrade like me. And after all of the iOS 11 releases nothing changed.

Also compared the Antutu benchmark scores, I've got 25% more than my friend's iPhone running iOS 12. (We even got the same storage option: 128 GB)
