Raise to speak working poorly on watchOS 5

I'm having trouble getting the "raise to speak"- function to work anywhere close to reliably.

I'm using an Apple Watch Series 3 paired to an iPhone 7 on the latest software updates. I've tried speaking in various proximity to the watch after raising, and seeking louder. I can't get it to work in mor than 1/2 or maybe 2/3 of the time, despite being in a completely silent environment.

I've tried toggling the fiction on and off in the watch's settings and rebooting the watch.

Anyone have the same issue? Anyone know of a fix? And maybe most importantly: anyone not having this issue at all?

Found the answer to my problem in another thread ... the Siri function has been working fine, the list offered while informative and boiler plate didn't help ... it was the 'raise to speak' portion that was hit and miss ....

Apparently the watch face must be in a vertical orientation (think perpendicular to the floor) then the raise to speak function works every time. Rotate your wrist off the vertical plane ... and it doesn't pick up to invoke Siri for rain to speak.
