Well, last night I "upgraded" to iOS 12. I now have a constant notification that my "iPhone storage is full". Funny thing is that I have 3GB of free space...
I had a similar issue last year when updating to iOS 11, where the notification would occur if you had anything less than 1GB free.
Now I have 3GB free and still get the message. Any ideas how to fix it?

When I cannot download an app or use my camera because there is "no more space" and the phone actually has 170GB of space...that's not an expectation of "flawless" that is an expectation that my coffee machine makes coffee, my microwave heats water, my TV plays what I want it to play. Geez. Do me a favor and save your ***** comments for someone else.
For the rest of you, I found that my phone had not had a successful backup in several months. It took a couple of failed attempts on my mac before I finally got a current back up, and it took a long time. Once the backup was complete the issue seems to have resolved itself. I have my phone set to wireless backup and with 256 GB and cloud storage, I seldom hard wire the phone to the mac for syncing. If you are having this issue, give this a try.

The solution is to make a full backup restore to factory conditions and then restore from the backup. If that does not work you need to restore to factory conditions and then set up as new.
I created a backup, then hit "reset" under the general settings and followed the prompts. I assume the reset is the equivalent to set up as new.
I was having the same problem, and just installed the 12.0.1 update, which appears to have fixed the issue of the bogus "storage full" message
Well, I went ahead and did the restore using iTunes and a computer and so far, the memory full message is gone. I'm somewhat reluctant to call it solved because I ended up deleting several more things and now have 4.8GB free, which is more free space than before. Hopefully it's fixed, but we'll see what happens as more memory is consumed

I don’t buy it either. I have a 64GB iPhone 6 Plus and since IOS12 I get this message regularly. Typically I have 56GB used so that’s about 12% free. But when I get this message, if I check storage it shows almost full, and it is “Other” that has gobbled it up. Once it went to 63.9 GB used out if 64 GB. I did nothing and it went back down to 56 GB used.
IMHO it is IOS that can’t handle its cache and other storage. There is no point in me deleting some of my data, when 5 minutes ago I had 8 GB free and without any action from me, I will have 8 GB free again in another 5 minutes.
It appears that the warning is genuine. I would delete any unused apps to make room.
If you set it up as new as you have said, the next step is to take it to your nearest Apple store genius bar for an evaluation.
This notifications doesn’t seem to serve much purpose but to advertise iCloud storage. It makes me waste a lot of time cleaning up the phone memory to start getting it again in a few weeks. Apple should let us have control on how much the threshold should be, either as % of total space or as absolute size, I.e. 1 or 2GB get this notification.
it is based on percentage not actual. If it is within a certain percentage of the max it gives a warning.
I don't buy it. I have over 20% of the memory free. In iOS 11 it would consistently give the memory full prompt under 1GB, which IMO is still too high, but at least makes a little more sense on a device with more built in memory than mine.
But, 20%? If that is true it is patently absurd.
Brand new iPhone 6 straight out of box, yesterday. Updated to newest iOS 12 when setting up phone. Currently has over 9 GB free, but won't even let me take Photos due to "Out of Storage" message.....

Hi there, I have similar problem. I actually have 30 Gb free on my Iphone and Im constantly getting messages to clean up my storage. Can't record any videos etc. System also showing 18.8 G size. This seems serious bag, please help here! Im also using Icloud and have stored there 50 Gb... Anyone can suggest proper solution for this? Thank you.
