iTunes doesn’t recognise iOS 12 devices

This morning I updated my iPhone 7 and iPad Pro to iOS 12. Since updating, iTunes on my iMac no longer recognises either device when plugged in via usb cable. iTunes is on the latest Mac version 12.8.0.150. I have tried multiple reboots of both the Mac and the devices but nothing works. Any ideas?

Download the current 12.8 installer for iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.

Install iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.

At the end of the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.

Install that and iTunes should see your devices.

Or wait until Apple decide to release iTunes 12.9 for Mac. 😕

I have now had several messages back and forth with Apple support and have got precisely nowhere after being told to restart, reset the NVRAM, etc, etc. I guess it serves me right for having an iMac running the latest os, the latest version of iTunes and iOS 12 on my devices. How ridiculous of me to assume they might actually work together...

I have tried the above. I get the prompt about the software update. I click download however, I get a message saying that I need to close the iTunes application which Is used in order to download the update. It gives the option of installing the update later.

I am trying to close th iTunes application but I can't. I clicked install the update later but then the update is lost

any help?

Hey all, applied most of the solutions here to no avail on an older iMac i7 with High Sierra and iTunes 12.8. Then I went to the iPad in question and forced a sync from the Wifi iTunes-synchronisation menu which remarkably prompted the minor software update, so it seemed. This was not long after the iTunes reinstall, and I'm not 100% sure my action is what did the trick. Imagine a little delay and it could have been the update as well. iPad hooked up with usb, but earlier invisible in iTunes, both connected to wifi and the iMac also networked to the TimeCapsule router. While invisible in iTunes, it seemed invisible in Finder as well from what I remember but it was visible in the System overview, usb section, and in Foto's.

Good luck, Bas.
