Imessage and dual sim

With dual sim, will there be a way to use imessage capabilities on both lines? Or will the second line always be green bubble texts! It doesn't help me stop using two iphones if one of my lines will lose all the functions.

Send messages with iMessage and SMS/MMS

You can send messages with iMessage and use FaceTime on one phone line. To change which line uses iMessage, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > Messages.
  2. Tap iMessage & FaceTime Line.
  3. Select the phone number you want to use.

You can use SMS/MMS to send messages with either phone number.* You can switch phone numbers before you send an SMS/MMS message. Here's how:

  1. Open Messages.
  2. Tap the New button, in the upper right corner of the screen.
  3. Enter your contact's name.
  4. Tap the current phone number.
  5. Tap the number you want to use.

* Additional fees may apply. Check with your carrier.

I forgot to point out: the Android method for calls to come in while 1 is in use, is just conditional call forwarding. You can do that on the iPhone, that's what I do. But... they need to be from the same country. That's the reason why it fails, that I forgot to point out. The AT&T SIM has a US/Mexico/Canada plan. While I could place calls from any of those countries and to any of those, it would not let a call forward be activated. So, other people like me, with 2 sims from the same country, set a conditional call forward to the other sim, on each sim. Apple could do the same thing as Huawei and Samsung... and just do it for the users with the flick of a button. Anyhow... in your scenario, it can't work due to carriers not allowing the international call forward. Hope it's clearer.

Thank you. I was looking at the XS Max and XR dual sims, and was wondering if it was DSDS or DSDA. Thanks for providing an intelligent detailed response. While DSDA would be nice, call forwards work fine. I don't know how many times I received a call on a second sim while I was already on the first, but if I did, I would be able to count them on 1 hand. Not a deal breaker for me.

And I am leaning towards the XR. Not sure the XS max is worth the extra $$$.
