Just installed iOS 12 on homepod in anticipation of using the phone features and I find the HomePod does not ring when a call comes in. This makes it much less useful, why is that limitation there?

Hi, thanks, I’ve read Apple doco on this and it says that the HomePod won’t ring, so it’s behaving as it’s supposed to. Just saying it should have the option of having the HomePod ring on an incoming call for situations when iphone is in another room. Not as useful as I had hoped.

Don't know, but it is listed at Make and answer phone calls on HomePod - Apple Support. You could use Feedback - HomePod - Apple to argue that it is removed.

When you're ready to make a call, ask Siri to call a name from your synced contacts list or dial a specific phone number by speaking the digits. If you're home when someone calls your phone number, your iPhone can be automatically directed to the HomePod by saying, "Hey Siri, answer my iPhone."
I have the same problem, making outgoing calls works fine but incoming calls only ring on my iPhone.
Why won’t HomePod ring when iPhone call comes in.
