Having the exact same experience here. Without question, this issue began when I “upgraded” to iOS12. This issue has been devastating and needs to be resolved ASAP. I depend upon iMessage and can no longer trust/depend on the tool to send messages to the proper person. In the same way, I cannot be sure from whom texts are actually being sent.

Obviously there is Apple ID sharing going on. It's kinda like multiple persons sharing a Social Security number. They can go for years without a problem but, sooner or later, they'll get bit. That's why Apple has ALWAYS indicated that Apple IDs should NOT be shared.

As I recall, you indicated that the message senders blatantly violated proper procedures.
I believe it’s to nudge people into creating a separate Apple ID per device. Wether it’s intended to be a nudge or not people should have gotten a warning that after updating to ios12 it’s a good possibility that if u share the same Apple ID with someone your convos could get mixed up

If they insist on violating procedures, your only solution is to avoid trading messages with them. Again, Apple has ALWAYS stated that Apple IDs should not be shared.

No it's not. First of all, "people" should have ALWAYS kept their IDs separate. IOS-12 has provided a MAJOR benefit for those of us that use iPhones in the manner that they're supposed to be used.

Yes and they're causing problems for you. If you're unable/unwilling to convince them to use the iPhones properly, then you have to put up with the consequences.

What do you get out of not offering any actual help except for a finger wagging on what you should not do? Clearly this is pretty standard practice for quite a few people if we're all here asking the same question.

It's your right to use your iPhone in any manner you choose. Just don't whine that it's not working correctly.
Geez. You still miss the point! I AM using my phone the way it was designed and yet I'm here talking to you. 😟
It's because I have this problem with iMessage that Apple created when the updated IOS 12. See IOS 11 worked fine but IOS 12 doesn't work the same. And since I cannot go into peoples phones and create Apple ID's for them, iMessage is not working how I expect it to (on my phone, not theirs). Apple will fix this 🙂
Ok, except I have read plenty of messages from people like myself who use their phones as they were meant to be used (always have been 5 iPhones, 5 Apple ID’s but use Family Sharing) but we are also experiencing this issue. How is that not some kind of problem or glitch with IOS12?
...and he still hasn't answered my question: what is this new "feature" that is supposed to be working correctly?! Not one (condescending) poster has yet to explain what this "change" is supposed to do, how this is an "improvement" and how this has improved the iOS user experience.

There is nothing to fix. You should investigate an Android purchase.
Why is iMessage combining two contacts into one thread. I can only text back the last one that messaged me. This started with iOS 12
