Having the exact same experience here. Without question, this issue began when I “upgraded” to iOS12. This issue has been devastating and needs to be resolved ASAP. I depend upon iMessage and can no longer trust/depend on the tool to send messages to the proper person. In the same way, I cannot be sure from whom texts are actually being sent.

Or even iCloud Drive (that has helped in the past with call history sharing).
Look here, the settings described may provide a proper repair.
I’ve had the same issue with AirDrop, even after everyone was on their own AppleID. There is a bigger problem here than just IDs.
A factory reset is not going to do anything useful until a fix is released for the underlying problems.
I cannot text any of my 4 kids. When i text them, it comes back to me
Instead of complaining about what you THINK is the case, why don't you investigate Family Sharing?
Or buy an Android.
You are not being helpful. Just rude

Apple is not going to comment here. This is strictly a user forum.
As for disagreeing regarding sharing IDs, you are welcome to reject reality and substitute your own. It won't change the facts.
Do whatever you wish but, if you insist on violating the rules, don't expect any help here.

And I'm sure your kids like the fact that they can follow your texts also.
Thank you. Do you have anything on why they allow us to set up "send and receive" to other numbers on our ID?

Because you may have more than one phone. Many people do.
That's not true.
Why is iMessage combining two contacts into one thread. I can only text back the last one that messaged me. This started with iOS 12
