Voice memos is not saved after i done recording

Hello, i've been searching for this problem but i didn't find any solutions. There are only an unanswered one.

So, i have an iphone x with the new ios 12 installed on it last night. This morning i had an interview class with my lecturer about my thesis. To make it easier for me to takes on every word he says, i choose to record it on the voice memos. I already test it first and it records. After that i pressed the red button and begin recording session, it did shows the recording process with the sound graph or something like that (sorry i didn't know how to called it). After like 57 minutes i done my interview, when i pressed the done button it just bring me to the voice memos and it didn't show the recording i just made. But, when i try to search on the home screen (that one when u swipe to the right and type on the search box) it shows my last already made recording with the correct voice memos names but it didn't show up on the voice memos apps. How can i recover that lost voice memos when i can still search the correct name and it still shows up the memos ?

I try to describe as specific as possible, because i hope i can recover that voice memos because it is really a very very important one. I made this communities support account just for this just to let you know.

They ARE saved! Open the memos app. When you open it, see the left side bar? That is where they are saved.

you can rename them.

the first 24 hours it will reflect the time that it was recorded. After that, it will reflect the date. If you need to remember both the time and date, I suggest you name it some like “ work: 10.15.18/ 1:15 PM “

here is a screenshot. Hope this helps. I’ve renamed mine “ address” as it’s an address I need for tomorrow.

Hi!

I also recently encountered this problem with the voice memo, and lost a really important 46 minute discussion for my thesis. As same as the others I have paused the recording and clicked done, but unfortunately it did not appear on the list. I tried really hard to find a way and read through the comments. I have also tried other stuffs written, I tried searching it it my iPhone and the record shows up but can't be open with voice memos.

I was loosing hope and found your comment! it actually worked and I have found the missing record! but in my case I do not own a Mac and fortunately iMazing is available for windows! I also did what you did and headed to:

File System -----> Media ------> Recordings

Then from there I looked for the folder that has the date of my recording and opened the "fragments".

from there I have located the missing file that I was looking for! the folder actually has 2 m4a files and I opted to try and listen to the larger file and thankfully it was the full 46 minute record that I was looking for! After making sure, I copied it into my laptop and made several back ups.

I do hope this solution would also work to others who also has the same problem, since it helped me a lot! Thank you so much!

FINALLY GOT IT! To sum it up: Download iMazing - then try to recover the file through one of the 3 voice memo recordings the trial has, or if it results in an error, it may be because of two reasons: either it shows the path of the file, or it says it is on iCloud and has to be downloaded to the iPhone to be retrieved (not possible because as we all know there is no visible file on the app, only by the search bar @ home screen).

So, I went to the sidebar to "File System", and looked it up by its date and time filename. As you can see there is no .waveform (blank logo) or .m4a, however, I was allowed to use one of my 100 available file recoveries from the trial, to copy it to my Mac. The 1 hour 4 min voice memo was sized 370MB and inside the folder there was also the .waveform.

File recovered, so happy and so much kudos to iMazing!!!

There is no sidebar on the iPhone. Just the tray at the bottom that shows your recordings.

I did what someone else suggested earlier to check the trash using the search feature on the phone. Yes, all of my recordings I deleted on purpose were there but not the one that didn't save after I recorded it. Curiously, the "Top Hit" results for the search show a file started right around the time this file was created but when I click on it, it just opens the Voice Memos app and it is nowhere to be found.

I know there is no sidebar in the iPhone...just the iPad.

i posted a link that apparently broke.

Here it is again...

https://www.macworld.com/article/3298498/ios/how-to-use-the-voice-memos-app.html

it says it will be in a LIST above the RED BUTTON.

this is a good article with good explanations. I realize that Voice Memos doesn’t work the same on all iPhones or Apple devices.

Sorry about the previous broken link.

I have read through this thread as I’m following it. I do not recall seeing that you can seee some saved ones.

i was under the impression that you couldn’t see any that were saved. In any case,

live nit encountered this problem so I was trying to help.

my advice to all in this discussion Is to contact Apple support directly. They will have someone contact you by phone at the time you desire and walk you through it.

I’m curious by this.

When end you do search it, where is it actually found?

for example, when you search “New Recording “, what is the answer to where your recording is?

i just searched mine and it shows Voice Memos ( yes, it’s working for me so it’s stored there- and fully aware this queary might not yield the same result )

im curious where yours are being saved, if searching reveals this information.

This is intriguing to me.

Right, because you have locations turned on.

so you can find them ( and play them back once found ? Or no?)

let Ed me ask you to try this.

make a test memo right now. When you are done, do you see the ”share” button? If so, share it to yourself via text.

then, open the text you sent yourself and p and hold the voice memo that you sent.

It it will ask you to save it. See what the options are for saving it, and save it.
