Voice memos is not saved after i done recording

Hello, i've been searching for this problem but i didn't find any solutions. There are only an unanswered one.

So, i have an iphone x with the new ios 12 installed on it last night. This morning i had an interview class with my lecturer about my thesis. To make it easier for me to takes on every word he says, i choose to record it on the voice memos. I already test it first and it records. After that i pressed the red button and begin recording session, it did shows the recording process with the sound graph or something like that (sorry i didn't know how to called it). After like 57 minutes i done my interview, when i pressed the done button it just bring me to the voice memos and it didn't show the recording i just made. But, when i try to search on the home screen (that one when u swipe to the right and type on the search box) it shows my last already made recording with the correct voice memos names but it didn't show up on the voice memos apps. How can i recover that lost voice memos when i can still search the correct name and it still shows up the memos ?

I try to describe as specific as possible, because i hope i can recover that voice memos because it is really a very very important one. I made this communities support account just for this just to let you know.

Just wanted to let everyone that the by downloading imazing to my PC I was able to retrieve my lost voice memo file. In imazing I went to file systems and then media recordings. I found a folder with the date and time that matched when I made the recording. Clicked on it and there I found the missing voice memo. Clicked on it and it played! So from the imazing program I saved it to my PC and then transferred it to my itunes and put it in a playlist. Then I sync'd the playlist to my phone and can now hear the memo on my phone through the playlist. Crisis averted! Thanks to whoever suggested this work around.

Background

So I recorded a 52 minute long voice memo yesterday in class. Very important recording because I need it to complete my final exam. I periodically checked while I was in the class to make sure that it was still recording, which each time it was. When I wanted to end the recording there was no stop, end, or done button. So I closed down the app and returned to it. It brought me back to the recording and this time a done button appeared. I hit done. When I went to go find the recording to listen to it, it was nowhere to be found in the voice memo. I searched it on my phone and I could see the 52 min voice memo I had just recorded. I clicked on it and it took me back to voice memo but it did not show up there or in the deleted files. I contacted apple support. They could not resolve the problem. All they said is that this was a known issue that they are still investigating and to be sure to just update my iOS anytime there is an update. Thankfully the imazing suggestion worked. I have an iPhone XS and I am and was running iOS 12.1 when this problem occurred.

Don’t think you understanding the issue. We know where saved voice memos are. We can see some saved ones that have no issues. We can’t see some that we clicked on ‘done’ and for some reason is not showing up in the voice memos app. The voice memo app is buggy on iOS 12 even after updating to iOS 12.0.1. However when we search for the missing memo from the home screen using the name/number of the recording; it shows up as a search result but nothing in the app. In fact when recording a new voice memo, it’s skips the voice memo number that’s ‘missing’ and assigns the number after that.

I replied to this query - (the 8th or so reply to the OP (original post)

"

They ARE saved! Open the memos app. When you open it, see the left side bar? That is where they are saved.

you can rename them.

the first 24 hours it will reflect the time that it was recorded. After that, it will reflect the date. If you need to remember both the time and date, I suggest you name it some like “ work: 10.15.18/ 1:15 PM “

here is a screenshot. Hope this helps. I’ve renamed mine “ address” as it’s an address I need for tomorrow."

there is a screenshot there, too. Hope this helps someone.

Right, because you have locations turned on.

so you can find them ( and play them back once found ? Or no?)

let Ed me ask you to try this.

make a test memo right now. When you are done, do you see the ”share” button? If so, share it to yourself via text.

then, open the text you sent yourself and p and hold the voice memo that you sent.

It it will ask you to save it. See what the options are for saving it, and save it.

I'm sorry, I'll try to be more clear:

First, go to iCloud (in settings, click your name, iCloud opens and you see this list here:

In the list, see I have notes showing and green. Tick notes to make it green.

User uploaded file

Next: You make your voice memo. Then you see this :

Click the square with arrow (share) button AFTER you've made a voice memo.

User uploaded file

After you click that *above screenshot*, this window appears below:

User uploaded file

You will click "save" and it will save to notes and you can access Voice Memos by signing into iCloud.com to retrieve your notes.

*I am not certain it will work for older Voice Memos. But you can try it when you search for older Voice Memos and see if that works with them as well. I hope this made sense.

OH MY GOD YOU DREAMBOAT!!!!!! Thank you so much, this TOTALLY WORKED FOR ME! I am SOOOO HAPPY!!!!!

For others' reference, I didn't quite follow the instructions on the page you linked (https://support.imazing.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001152374-Voice-Memos-Export-fa ils-with-The-file-or-folder-doesn-t-exis…). I did go to the File System View but I found the instruction to rename the file with the same filename confusing, so instead I double clicked on the folder (i.e. of the same name of the file that was missing and couldn't be exported from the voice memos section on iMazing), then I went into the subfolder called fragments, selected it and selected 'copy to mac', which exported the .m4a file. I am SO HAPPY that you shared this info! Thank you a million million times!

Ok, so I thought I'd share my experience with this issue as well - on iPhone iOS12. The main missing file issue happened August 6th, 2017 at 5AM Eastern Time USA.

I've had a couple of voice memos go completely missing from the recorded list- all the other recordings would show and would playback and be editable - strangely though as others have noted the missing file would show up in search but would not let you interact with it. I've had this happen with a few files and have not been able to recover yet - will try that program mentioned soon. Hopefully my history of fragments will go back that far.

The other issue started happening a little after - in 2018. I'd complete a voice memo and press on the file to name it something other than the "New Recording 1" - I'd begin typing a name and it would suddenly reject what I had typed and revert back to the original name. This was not as annoying however as the times when It would let me name the file, I'd exit the app - and when I came back to my voice memos it would be named "New recording" again! At least when it would happen as I was typing I would notice it and be able to fix it but if it happens when I don't see it how will I know what these are later!?

Now it's April 30th 2019 and after a recent update the voice memo app seems to be working much better. I haven't noticed it reacting poorly or losing files or naming glitches - anything like that. (Though now when I play voicemail messages from the visual voicemail every once in a while it will freeze the phone app and I'll have to reboot the phone. What the HECK!?)

So we'll see if this issue is corrected. Hopefully this might help someone. I'll update if my recovery was successful.

I almost had a heart attack as the voice memo wasn’t saved after I pressed done.. it was a very very important clinical supervision meeting (and a very expensive for me too!). It ended up being saved as a first recording - dated year 1970!!! I have a long list of voice memos and I did not think at first to check them all. Needless to say I feel like I won lottery.
