Voice memos is not saved after i done recording

Hello, i've been searching for this problem but i didn't find any solutions. There are only an unanswered one.

So, i have an iphone x with the new ios 12 installed on it last night. This morning i had an interview class with my lecturer about my thesis. To make it easier for me to takes on every word he says, i choose to record it on the voice memos. I already test it first and it records. After that i pressed the red button and begin recording session, it did shows the recording process with the sound graph or something like that (sorry i didn't know how to called it). After like 57 minutes i done my interview, when i pressed the done button it just bring me to the voice memos and it didn't show the recording i just made. But, when i try to search on the home screen (that one when u swipe to the right and type on the search box) it shows my last already made recording with the correct voice memos names but it didn't show up on the voice memos apps. How can i recover that lost voice memos when i can still search the correct name and it still shows up the memos ?

I try to describe as specific as possible, because i hope i can recover that voice memos because it is really a very very important one. I made this communities support account just for this just to let you know.

Just wanted to let everyone that the by downloading imazing to my PC I was able to retrieve my lost voice memo file. In imazing I went to file systems and then media recordings. I found a folder with the date and time that matched when I made the recording. Clicked on it and there I found the missing voice memo. Clicked on it and it played! So from the imazing program I saved it to my PC and then transferred it to my itunes and put it in a playlist. Then I sync'd the playlist to my phone and can now hear the memo on my phone through the playlist. Crisis averted! Thanks to whoever suggested this work around.

Background

So I recorded a 52 minute long voice memo yesterday in class. Very important recording because I need it to complete my final exam. I periodically checked while I was in the class to make sure that it was still recording, which each time it was. When I wanted to end the recording there was no stop, end, or done button. So I closed down the app and returned to it. It brought me back to the recording and this time a done button appeared. I hit done. When I went to go find the recording to listen to it, it was nowhere to be found in the voice memo. I searched it on my phone and I could see the 52 min voice memo I had just recorded. I clicked on it and it took me back to voice memo but it did not show up there or in the deleted files. I contacted apple support. They could not resolve the problem. All they said is that this was a known issue that they are still investigating and to be sure to just update my iOS anytime there is an update. Thankfully the imazing suggestion worked. I have an iPhone XS and I am and was running iOS 12.1 when this problem occurred.

Has anyone been able to retrieve lost voice memos yet? I believe some people have contacted Apple for support.

I lost two voice memos of 2 hours in duration each. When I unlocked my phone after recording, I was not given the option to save or select 'done'. It seemed like the app crashed and the memos just disappeared. They are also not in the recently deleted list.

Searching for the memos on the main screen shows that they their names exist on the phone, but they are not retrievable in any manner that I have tried.

Some important interviews lost - hoping someone can help!

I am sorry you lost your work. I am still dealing with the fallout. You are correct - warn people until you get it fixed.

I downloaded a free app to use going forwarded and it’s great. I can back it up thru iTunes onto my laptop and flash drive. I really like it. You might want to consider doing that. I don’t think I will ever use the iPhone app again. Can’t trust it and this was too important.

I downloaded Voice Recorder.

I didn’t do a lot of research because I needed something quickly, but it has been great so far. I have used it a few times with no problems. Last night, an alarm I forgot I had set went off and the taping resumed automatically when I shut the alarm off. Voice Memo didn’t do that. I found out the hard way that ANY interruption meant I had to remember to manually restart it.

I have backed up Voice Recorder thru iTunes to my PC and to my flash drive. It even saves to Notes. I have the free version and see no need to upgrade. The ads are non-intrusive/minimal. It does everything I need it to do and then some. Frankly, I wish I had downloaded it a while ago. It’s better than Voice Memo, IMHO.

Well, your help got me one step closer to solving my problem...

While I had the voice memo recording in the background, I plugged my Apple headphones into the jack. (iPhone SE / 12.01)

This stopped the recording which was fine since I was deleting it anyway. The problem is that there is no voice message to be found in the memo app. I tried an experiment and it did the same thing. There should be two memos in the app when there are none. If I start a third recording it says '3' at the end as if there are two there.

Using the information you gave above, the search does show there are two memo files. A regular recording and one with a '2' at the end. Selecting either of these brings up the memo app but no recording.

They weren't important and I just want to delete them off of the phone. Any ideas?

I downloaded imazing to my pc...I got the same error message (ie the file or folder doesn’t exist), I clicked on to the File System folder, I clicked on “Recordings” where folders and links of my recorded voice memos were shown (including the missing one). I opened the “missing one”, and I clicked on another sub file called “fragments,” but it said the file was empty. Is there another way to navigate this in order to view the missing voice memo? As you can tell, i’m having the same issue...a 30 min interview recorded, shows up with a stamped date/time in the search bar of the navigation page, but there’s no recording in the app itself. I was on the phone with Apple for two hours today, with no solution. They have no idea what’s going on with it.

I'm sorry that happened. I lost a total of 6 hrs of recording that was personally devastating to me. If it helps, I downloaded a free app called Voice Recorder and I use that now. It is great and you can back it up to your PC and iTunes. It is reliable and works great.

Sorry you lost your info. Apple really screwed up a good thing. Again.

Similar issue. Looks live the revamped app for iOS 12 works differently to before. I’ve just lost a 2hr recording that saved at 27mins for some very strange reason: truncated I think because I started to rename the recording before it was fully saved? Either way, this voice memo up is no longer trustworthy so this is a huge negative on Apple development. I’m already looking for another solution that’s not Apple now.
