Do Not Disturb notification

Has anyone else had to clear off the explanatory notification about Do Not Disturb notifications from the lock screen several times an hour after upgrading to ios 12?

Any thoughts on how to keep it from coming back?

It’s a bug that seems linked to the auto-lock timing; if you auto-lock after 5 minutes for example but unlock your phone in less then it won’t appear - if you unlock after 5 minutes then it will.

The only fix to permanently get rid of it is to revert to manual locking.

As several people have noted, currently there isn’t a toggle to switch the “Do Not Disturb is On” notification on or off. It’s a new feature that Apple released with iOS 12 and if you’d like to have them address it you should copy the message below and add feedback at: https://www.apple.com/feedback/

“Please offer a toggle in the settings for Do Not Disturb to switch the “Do Not Disturb is Turned On” notification on and off. I, like many, have set DND on a specific schedule and am fully aware when it is on or off. I understand that some users may accidentally turn DND on and would prefer a notification, but the constant reminder and need to dismiss the pop-up notification detracts from the iPhone experience and aesthetic for those of us who are aware of when we’ve scheduled Do Not Disturb. Thank you!”

With IOS 12.1, there are 2 methods to remove the DND notice from the lock screen:

Method 1:

Tap or press on DND notice until it turns white, then tap on the X.

Method 2:

Swipe the DND notice to the left, then tap on Clear.

The notice will not appear again as long as DND remains continuously ON.

However with each method, the notice will return if DND is turned OFF and then turned ON again.

I'm in the same situation as poster MacTavish. I use a custom lock screen showing my contact info in case the phone is lost. The DND notice covers up my contact info.

The methods above work well for me because I keep DND on almost continuously to avoid spam calls. In the DND settings under Allow Calls From, I specify All Contacts. This allows calls to ring  from anyone in my Contacts, but all other calls go to voicemail. I only turn DND off if I'm expecting a call from someone not in my Contacts, which rarely happens.

Hey Pater.Romulus,

It looks like you're having some trouble with the Do Not Disturb notification appearing several times on your iPhone. I'd like to help out.

Have you tried restarting the iPhone? If not, try that now and see if the issue resolves itself: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Also, try enabling Do Not Disturb in Settings > Do Not Disturb, then toggling it back off.

If it's still showing, let us know exactly what the notification says. Take care.

The large notification on the lock screen can be turned off like this:

1) Tap the notification on the lock screen - this will cause the notification to expand. A large X icon will appear on the top right, and a large "Turn Off" button will appear at the bottom.

2) Click the X icon. This will remove the notification from the lock screen, and Do Not Disturb will remain active. (Click the "Turn Off" button will disable Do Not Disturb)

That was actually the whole point being made. The answer ‘no, you can’t switch the notication off permanently’ was all we needed. I wasn’t ranting against the feature and have left feedback already thanks.

What I was here, on this technical support forum, addressing was the constant, superfluous ‘answers’ that always appear on threads like this with an unnecessarily supercilious tone. Like telling people who deliberately turn on a feature that the answer to an unnecessary reminder is to switch off the feature. Classic.

What you're missing and seem to be missing deliberately is that some people know that it's on and want to have the option to disable the constant notification. 🙂

I understand that. But, in the end, it doesn't matter what I think. It matters what Apple decides to do. Let them know what you'd like to see here:

That notification is SO ANNOYING. I already know how the "Do not disturb" mode works. I don't need a notification remembering me of that EVERY SINGLE DAY. Plus, I already have the icon at the top of the screen, so I already know it's on. iOS should have AT LEAST an option to deactivate that.

Apple isn't reading here. If you want them to know that's what you'd like to see, use the feedback page:

I'm having the same issue on my iPhone 6s. I tried turning the phone on and off. I tried toggling I tried hitting "clear" after swiping the message. All to no avail. The same message keeps popping up: "Do Not Disturb. Calls and notifications will be silenced until Do Not Disturb is turned off."

I never received this message with previous iterations of the iPhone software.

Thanks so much for the clarification. It would be nice if Apple included Do Not Disturb in the Notifications section, allowing users like me who know the Do Not Disturb is always on to keep the window from popping up all the time. Unless there is another way (one that I'm unaware of) to filter out all incoming communications except for a select few you'd like to get through to you.

Thanks again.
