problems with upgrade to Safari 12.0

I've had problems with a couple of websites not working properly with the latest version of Safari. The first problem I noticed was with the Washington Post website. My computer was very sluggish when trying to enter comments and eventually I got a notice that they were no longer to connect with my computer. Apple support checked my computer and found it operating fine; they suggested the problem might have been unusually high traffic at the Washington Post site. But it happened another day as well, and it doesn't happen when I switch to Google Chrome browser. Then I tied to use a Harris-Teeter web site that shows their sale specials and permits construction of a shopping list. It still shows their specials but the shopping list column is not there. Again, it worked fine using Chrome. Have other users have similar experiences?

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. Please post back on whether or not this worked. Also try the Safe Mode. Please post back on whether or not this worked.

Safe Mode - About

Safe Mode Startup – El Capitan. also Sierra

If it works in the Safe Mode, try running this program when booted normally and then copy and paste the output in a reply. The program was created by Etresoft, a frequent contributor. Please use copy and paste as screen shots can be hard to read. Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy to Clipboard” and then paste into a reply. This will show what is running on your computer. No personal information is shown.

Eric,

My last talk with Apple support had me report the issue to Apple. Then I got around to trying your suggestion to login with a different administrative account. First I had to set one up. Then I tried both the Washington Post and the Harris Teeter web sites. To my surprise they both worked perfectly! I'm not sure how to proceed from here.

Hi Eric,

Well, Apple support got me to one of their senior advisors and we made my copy of Safari into Safari.old, removed the check marks on the restart window to "Reopen windows when logging back in", then restarted my computer to get a fresh version of Safari and it works fine now. So thanks so much for your help. You proved it was not a problem with Safari's upgrade except that the upgrade apparently exposed some problems that had accumulated in my version of Safari.

I haven't tried setting up another admin account. But I have had assistance from Apple Support, case # 100646301917. We tried safe mode and it still happens. We reset some Safari preferences and cleared history and it didn't help. My last Apple tech advisor concluded it is something in Safari 12.0 that is not working right with these sites.
