I updated my MacOS on my iPhone 5s yesterday to version 12. Today in attempting to sync my iPhone with my mac mini 2012 via iTunes, nothing occurred. That update took place in my home via wifi.
My current version of MacOS on my mac mini is: 10.13.6
My current version of iTunes is: 12.8.0.150
Any suggestions as to what I ought to do in order to sync my iPhone to my mac mini via iTunes?

Download the current 12.8 installer for iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.
Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.
Install iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.
At the end of the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.
Install that and iTunes should see your devices.
Or wait for Apple to release iTunes 12.9 for Mac.

Everything tt2 mentioned except during (not at the end) the iTunes reinstall you will see the following screen he mentioned. Click Install when you see that and let both the iTunes install and that Software Update complete. Then you'll see your iDevice show up in iTunes like before.
