why are there random .png logo files in my files?

When clearing out my files today to make room on my laptop, I found 100s of .png files that were random logos, what could this be? is it ok to erase them?

what is the file "Pictures" vs Photos? On my MacBook pro there is a file (with logo) called pictures. I'm confused about its origin and usefulness. How is this different from the photos app? I think I can delete it, but it keeps popping up in photo files/libraries. It is probably old and I never cleaned it up. If anyone has info I would greatly appreciate help.

many random files called "Icon?" Recently, a large number of files (nearly 500 of them) from a few KB up to several megabytes have appeared all over my many external and internal drives. They all use either the icon of a very old app which hasn't worked since high sierra or the word "exec" in green on a dark gray rectangle, and the name attached to these files is simply "Icon?". Can these be safely discarded?

Icons from web sites is one possibility. Where did you find them? Move the files to the Trash, restart the computer, and test. If everything is okay, empty the Trash.
