iOS 12 Bluetooth Uconnect issue

I updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 12, and immediately noticed that there is now a significant lag in song selection when connected to bluetooth in my car's Uconnect head unit. When a new song plays, the song run time is frozen for exactly 30 seconds while the song plays. If I try to toggle next/last track selection using the car's audio controls during this time, nothing happens until the 30 seconds pass, then it changes to the next song. It happens very consistently now with every new song that plays. Also, during some songs it'll do this freeze for 30 seconds where song navigation won't trigger.

Can't overstate how annoying this is. Has anyone else experienced this?

I posted earlier about having this problem. It all started when I updated to ios12. I did try to delete and reinstall the phone about 3 times. I am enrolled in the Apple phone renewal program where I get a new phone every year. I received my new phone last week. Guess what? No problems. The problems are only with existing phones doing the update. Not new phones that come with ios12.

Yeah that's not accurate overall, though it may be the case for you. My issues started on my iPhone 8 during the iOS 12 beta period, and continue with my iPhone XS. Both phones work in my truck without any issues about 10-15% of the time, but only until the ignition is turned off. The next time I'm in the truck, it'll stop working again and I can just look forward to the next time it randomly decides to work the way it should.

So for comparison's sake - over the last few weeks, I've had the opportunity to connect BT to a '18 Grand Cherokee with the latest 8.4" head unit as well as a '19 Ram 1500 with the big 12.1" screen. Both worked flawlessly over the course of their respective weekends. (The Ram BT had a separate issue where it disconnected and would not read my phone as available at all, but that seems unrelated. Or maybe not, who knows.)

Basically, this tells me that there's something which changed with the new iOS12 which plays poorly with some older Uconnect systems but nicely with the newer Panasonic units (but not all.) So still at square one - wish Apple would engage FCA and figure this out already.

So did I. My iPhone 8 was updated many times during the iOS 12 beta period through the final release before I got my iPhone XS. It started having problems around iOS 12 Beta 4. My iPhone XS was running iOS 12 out of the box, and had the same issue. So the issue is occurring with multiple devices whether they were updated to iOS 12, or ran iOS 12 out of the box. The update part doesn't seem to matter, but the common denominator is iOS 12 regardless of what hardware it's on.

I have had the same issues. I’ve taken the car to dealership to make sure I had the latest Uconnect software for my Chrysler as well as reset all settings etc on the IPhone XS. Works for a few days then gets worse. I waited for the new IOS 12.1.1 and now same issues again. Any solutions by anyone? Apple have said this has not been a problem really reported by too many but clearly I’m not the only one with this issue.

I have not had any luck. I called Uconnect customer support yesterday, after the first agent transferred me to SeriousXM and I was then transferred back to Uconnect, the agent told me that there is a "known issue" with Uconnects software and Apples 12.1 and 12.1.1. He couldn't tell me exactly what the issues are and/or a timeline to rectify the issue. I AM NOT HAPPY!!!

Yes, very sad and extremely disappointing. It's hard to believe in this day and age that they can't figure this out. I have an iPhone X (original X from last year) running iOS 12.1 and I can't get it to connect to my brand new 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but the same device/iOS had no problem with my 2013 Toyota Highlander (never had a problem connecting there). Uconnect, and maybe Apple, need to get of their *** and figure this out!!!

I couldn’t agree more! And with multi-billion dollar companies like Apple they still can’t get it right. My I-phone 7 on older iOS worked perfectly until I changed to the XS Max and updated the Apple software. Disgraceful and now I have a Chrysler I paid a fortune for which is partly rendered useless when I spend ages wasting time trying to connect the Bluetooth when it decides it doesn’t want to work.

What I don't get is, this issue has been documented - over 120 reported on this thread alone and countless others who have not officially reported it. It's been duplicated - I've sent video and logs to Apple Support showing the issue. Someone here even offered to drive up to Cupertino and show Apple developers the issue in person. And after 3 months, the responses we've received are just to wait for the next update. I know it'll "eventually" get fixed but this isn't very good urgency, from our customer/user perspective. Especially as it's a safety thing - when the system freezes, I'm digging out my phone to switch tracks and diverting attention from the road.

Just got this from Jeep Customer Assistance Center...

"Thank you for contacting the Jeep Customer Assistance Center.

I appreciate the time you have taken to contact Jeep in order to obtain further assistance with this concern. This is one that we are working toward correcting as soon as possible.

Apple dropped a new update recently, which was a bit of a surprise, as originally we were not expecting another update until January 2019.

Due to the surprise nature, we are finding some issues with the new update and customers may start to see issues with their Bluetooth connection to their vehicle as well as the use of the Uconnect app on their phone.

Thank you again for your email. Should you require additional assistance, or have any new information to provide, please reply to this email message or call 1-877-I-AM-JEEP (1-877-426-5337)."

I’ll throw my info on the pile. 2017 Ram 1500. This issue has been driving me nuts.

The strange thing, it only happens in my truck. It doesn’t happen in my wife’s 2013 Kia Optima. I think it’s more than just ios 12 causing the issue.

I wonder if it’s affecting anyone outside of the Uconnect environment? Car companies are notorious for being years behind in tech. I’d bet it’s more to do with the fact that car manufacturers (at least the ones that haven’t yet, or only recently, adopted CarPlay) use their own proprietary systems while utilizing older, cheaper components. They don’t have the knowledge, and won’t ever spend the money to get it right. Kind of infuriating when you pay so much extra for a system that is probably equivalent in power and performance to an obsolete original iPad.

I have the same issue. It has been going on for a few months now. That makes sense it linked to IOS 12. I have updated my Uconnect Radio to the latest version. I have a 2016 RAM 1500 with the 8.4an radio. It is frustrating. I have tried using the USB connection and it is better, but still has some issue. I ordered a 4 inch lighting cable and I am going to try just leaving it plugged in the console.
