iOS 12 Bluetooth Uconnect issue

I updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 12, and immediately noticed that there is now a significant lag in song selection when connected to bluetooth in my car's Uconnect head unit. When a new song plays, the song run time is frozen for exactly 30 seconds while the song plays. If I try to toggle next/last track selection using the car's audio controls during this time, nothing happens until the 30 seconds pass, then it changes to the next song. It happens very consistently now with every new song that plays. Also, during some songs it'll do this freeze for 30 seconds where song navigation won't trigger.

Can't overstate how annoying this is. Has anyone else experienced this?

This issue started for me after I upgraded Uconnect to 17.43.01 on my '15 Grand Cherokee on 10/2. I had iOS 12 on my phone already, and I did not have the delay before the Uconnect update. The delay in the radio controlling the phone usually was 30 seconds, but sometimes would be better. There was no change in behavior with the 12.0.1 iOS update.

I did a hard reset of the phone today (vol up, vol down, then hold the power button), and now the issue is almost gone. I did have one instance of a delay at the beginning of the pairing, but it went away after a song or two. It's possible that a hard reset (not a power off) will help some of you.

It will be interesting to see what iOS 12.1 will bring.

I was hopeful too but alas nothing has changed and the same issues with the latest version. I’m now having to delete the phone off Uconnect every few days then reconnect it to make it work short term.

Does anyone one know if Apple are aware of the problem? I reported it but their best advice they can give is always to delete stuff off the phone (reset network settings; reset all setting or even delete the contents of entire phone and reload the software like it’s a new phone) when the issue is the IOS itself and its compatibility with Uconnect.

Its extremely annoying and im having to stop the car and go through the whole process to try and reconnect it again.

I am on the 12.1.3 (16D5037a) on my iPhone X. I decided to try enrolling in the beta program to see if it would help. I believe I just installed the 3rd public beta for 12.1.3. I am still having issues. It is some improvement though. So what happens is the music starts to play, but the elapsed time will freeze. This means I will not be able to advance songs until that starts working again. The music is not interrupted though. I can wait for the elapsed timer to start working again and then it will advance immediately. If the elapsed time is froze and I try and advance, it will not doing anything for about a minute or so. I have already verified that my uconnect software is up to date also. Is there anything I am not doing to improve my experience?

Yeah I do like the clean solution. A person could go aftermarket and replace everything for $600. It even retains all factory features like climate control and backup camera. I just thought it would look stupid when it does not use the whole bezel space and sticks out about a half inch. A person also has to cut out a metal support also to get a aftermarket unit in. According to infotainment they took my VIN and I will be able to get updates from the uconnect site for the update HU. They do have their own dedicated support staff also that will help with updates. I am going to keep my original just in case. I will also probably tell the dealership to not attempt to update my HU firmware just in case they try to apply firmware for the old HU. I hope that using car play now will lead to less issues in the future as car play is more controlled by apple and used across different brands of HU's. Also using carplay solves the problem of having to pay map updates to Uconnect for their built in nav. You can just use apple maps for navigation. The only bad part is to use Apple CarPlay the phone has to be plugged into the usb port. There is no wireless options yet like in some of the aftermarket HUs.

Yeah my '16 Ram 1500 has had this problem since the early betas of iOS 12 and persisting through the most recent iOS 12.4 public beta. I was in Virginia for work a couple months ago, and happened to get an '18 or '19 Charger for my rental car, and it worked flawlessly with my phone. Either way, 4 different iPhones worked flawlessly in my truck for a year prior to iOS 12 breaking things, so I'm still convinced it's Apple's problem to fix and not FCA's.

SOOOoooo... here's the interesting part.

On this-morning's commute... it did *NOT* go to sleep on me.

The whole commute, it stayed open. I did *NOT* have the screen-lock set to "never"... it was set to 1-minute. The only thing(s) different from yesterday and today is that I played-around with the lock settings... but ultimately went BACK to my 1-min selection. Curious if just the simple ACT of changing the setting and changing it BACK did it...? or if it's something ENTIRELY different... dunno.

Either way... it worked "as expected" for this morning's commute. Go figure, right...?

Hey guys,

Do we think it may be a Dodge Uconnect issue?

I tried deleting my device from the Uconnect and turning the Bluetooth off my phone. I then restarted the car and the Bluetooth media retained the last song information from my phone. My husbands phone is connected, and it won’t recognize his device or play his music. Very weird. I am waiting to hear back from my service tech at Dodge.

UPDATE: Sadly, iOS 12.0.1 does *not* address this specific issue, but honestly, I didn't expect it to. I think they are still figuring-out this issue or it's currently under development for a bug-fix. I didn't post it, but I was also contacted by Apple and walked-through the process of logging Bluetooth activity while connected to my vehicle, then sending it off for analysis by the engineers. I don't expect to see a fix for this until another release, so for now... it's just a "deal with it" scenario until they chase it down.

As I mentioned before--if it's any consolation--this has happened (to me) before with my iPhone 6s back-in-the-day on my Ford's SYNC system. The EXACT same issues... track skipping delayed by varying degrees, spotty connectivity (sometimes requiring an explicit execution of the "connect" command in SYNC just to see the phone)... and it WAS fixed within a few point-releases... several weeks back at that time.

So, I am not worried about it BEING fixed... it's just a matter of *when*.

As mentioned before; I have tried numerous cycles of disconnecting/connecting, unpairing/pairing, rebooting, etc. None of it generated a lasting improvement.

Humorously, when it came time to "log" the issue working with Apple, I went out to my car to demonstrate the issue while the logger was running on my phone... and I—for the life of me—could not get it to LAG whatsoever. It was working flawlessly... so I figured... let me DRIVE for a bit too... so I drove around the block... and it was advancing the track FLAWLESSLY... until I decided to navigate the iTunes hierarchy with UConnect and play a playlist. All of a sudden... BOOM... there it was again. LagCity™ USA. Was glad to be able to replicate it... but was worried for a moment that my setup was going to be LOG-shy and NOT act-up while it was being watched. 🙂

So now... we wait.
