iOS 12 Bluetooth Uconnect issue

I updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 12, and immediately noticed that there is now a significant lag in song selection when connected to bluetooth in my car's Uconnect head unit. When a new song plays, the song run time is frozen for exactly 30 seconds while the song plays. If I try to toggle next/last track selection using the car's audio controls during this time, nothing happens until the 30 seconds pass, then it changes to the next song. It happens very consistently now with every new song that plays. Also, during some songs it'll do this freeze for 30 seconds where song navigation won't trigger.

Can't overstate how annoying this is. Has anyone else experienced this?

This issue started for me after I upgraded Uconnect to 17.43.01 on my '15 Grand Cherokee on 10/2. I had iOS 12 on my phone already, and I did not have the delay before the Uconnect update. The delay in the radio controlling the phone usually was 30 seconds, but sometimes would be better. There was no change in behavior with the 12.0.1 iOS update.

I did a hard reset of the phone today (vol up, vol down, then hold the power button), and now the issue is almost gone. I did have one instance of a delay at the beginning of the pairing, but it went away after a song or two. It's possible that a hard reset (not a power off) will help some of you.

It will be interesting to see what iOS 12.1 will bring.

As a last ditch attempt, I updated my Uconnect from SW 17.11.07 to 17.43.01 hoping against hope that that would trigger some kind of connectivity miracle with iOS 12.1. No dice - after a couple trips where it seemed to work, it's now back to a 30 second delay every few minutes. I know eventually they'll solve it, but this is getting tedious.

I have the same problem in my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee every time I drive it. Once the 30 second wait is over you can skip multiple times but if you leave it alone for a while you get the 30 second delay again. I'm in the bay area and, despite the insane traffic here, this bugs me enough that I'd be willing to swing by you guys at Apple if you think it would help to see it live.

What I don't get is, this issue has been documented - over 120 reported on this thread alone and countless others who have not officially reported it. It's been duplicated - I've sent video and logs to Apple Support showing the issue. Someone here even offered to drive up to Cupertino and show Apple developers the issue in person. And after 3 months, the responses we've received are just to wait for the next update. I know it'll "eventually" get fixed but this isn't very good urgency, from our customer/user perspective. Especially as it's a safety thing - when the system freezes, I'm digging out my phone to switch tracks and diverting attention from the road.

I’ll throw my info on the pile. 2017 Ram 1500. This issue has been driving me nuts.

The strange thing, it only happens in my truck. It doesn’t happen in my wife’s 2013 Kia Optima. I think it’s more than just ios 12 causing the issue.

I wonder if it’s affecting anyone outside of the Uconnect environment? Car companies are notorious for being years behind in tech. I’d bet it’s more to do with the fact that car manufacturers (at least the ones that haven’t yet, or only recently, adopted CarPlay) use their own proprietary systems while utilizing older, cheaper components. They don’t have the knowledge, and won’t ever spend the money to get it right. Kind of infuriating when you pay so much extra for a system that is probably equivalent in power and performance to an obsolete original iPad.

I cannot stress enough how annoying this is and how much more dangerous it makes the driving experience.. I have resorted to having to look down at my phone to change songs on my phone in order to avoid this problem! I'm not sure how this feature works but today I tried to plug in my iPhone and use the iPod feature on my uconnect unit and I still had the same issues as bluetooth. My wife's car 16 Dodge Journey UConnect 8.4N has a "cheaper" UConnect head unit or isn't as fancy as the one in my 2016 Ram 2500 UConnect 8.4AN and I have no issues in her car so this whole problem confuses me however I am just like the rest of you and I too never had an issue before iOS 12.. PLEASE APPLE FIX THIS PROBLEM!!!!

So the idea of staying off the media screen was working until this morning for me. I attempt to play all songs on shuffle and it was locking up after advancing for 30 seconds while on the navigation screen. I decided to give up. I went to https://www.infotainment.com/collections/all/products/2013-2018-ram-1500-2500-3500-8-4-4c-nav-uaq-retrofit-kit?variant=5161161359396. I purchased the model that includes apple car play. I am going to switch over to that and hope for better luck. I know it is an expensive purchase but it will be well worth it, in the long run. I was glad to see there was an option to retain the factory look and gain apple car play. I could of went aftermarket and it would of been cheaper, but it would stick out and look funny. I did talk with my dealership also about this. It sound like they are having a hard time with the updates that are pushed out by Uconnect.

Not sure when 12.2 will release. Beta 6 is the most recent build, so it's probably getting close. Unfortunately, my experience on Beta 5 has gone back to experiencing UConnect lockups when trying to skip through the track list. It's not happening as often as it did before, but it's definitely a step down from what I experienced on Beta 4. That may have just been luck though. I'm installing Beta 6 today and will play with it over the next few days. Hopefully it improves again.
