iOS 12 Bluetooth Uconnect issue

I updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 12, and immediately noticed that there is now a significant lag in song selection when connected to bluetooth in my car's Uconnect head unit. When a new song plays, the song run time is frozen for exactly 30 seconds while the song plays. If I try to toggle next/last track selection using the car's audio controls during this time, nothing happens until the 30 seconds pass, then it changes to the next song. It happens very consistently now with every new song that plays. Also, during some songs it'll do this freeze for 30 seconds where song navigation won't trigger.

Can't overstate how annoying this is. Has anyone else experienced this?

This issue started for me after I upgraded Uconnect to 17.43.01 on my '15 Grand Cherokee on 10/2. I had iOS 12 on my phone already, and I did not have the delay before the Uconnect update. The delay in the radio controlling the phone usually was 30 seconds, but sometimes would be better. There was no change in behavior with the 12.0.1 iOS update.

I did a hard reset of the phone today (vol up, vol down, then hold the power button), and now the issue is almost gone. I did have one instance of a delay at the beginning of the pairing, but it went away after a song or two. It's possible that a hard reset (not a power off) will help some of you.

It will be interesting to see what iOS 12.1 will bring.

I didn't get through 3 songs before the issue popped up again. Same exact symptoms as before.

Apple - if you're reading this. With all due respect, PLEASE put more urgency behind this. Every iteration of iOS 12 has had this issue, since it rolled out last September. Not having bluetooth access creates an annoyance at best and a safety hazard at worst, as drivers dig out their phones because track selection doesn't work. If the issue is on FCA's side, then work harder with them on a firmware update to fix this.

They don't have a solution is why. I don't believe they ever will at this point, as it's on FCA and Uconnect as well. Recent versions of Uconnect don't have this issue so they may have abandoned this past firmware. Very sad.

I personally don't blame FCA for this issue at all, and lean heavily toward it being Apple's problem to solve. Everything worked great on every iPhone my wife and I used until iOS 12 came out. I keep sticking with beta updates on my iPhone XS hoping that it will finally be resolved. So far, nothing. I really don't want to switch back to Android, but I'm getting more and more tempted lately. It's truly disappointing that with as much as iPhones cost, even compared to other high-end flagship phones, that something as simple as bluetooth audio can't work reliably with one of the most common (not to mention highly-rated) infotainment systems in the world. If this doesn't get fixed by the time iOS 13 is released, I'm going to have to seriously reconsider sticking with my iPhone upgrade plan.

Same exact problem here. Have you tried to update the Uconnect? I was thinking about it but I am afraid it will do more harm than good...

Thanks guys. There was a hardware change for FCA Uconnect between 2016 and 17, so it's not hardware related at least. Purely an iOS 12 change.

I’ve sent them videos and logs. As to timeline, they said to just await further updates to iOS and see if it resolves it.

That's been the issue...music plays but navigation and elapsed time is frozen until 30 seconds or so. Sounds like the same issue hasn't been resolved, or resolution is sporadic.

I installed iOS beta five and it works Perfect I Just installed beta 6 six hopefully that is the same if not I’ll come back

On other forums, people reported that they saw this issue back in iOS12 beta...which means that either Apple's not aware of this issue, or is aware and won't/haven't fixed it yet. Sad that this issue made its way to full release.

I was thinking about my Apple Maps not "staying-awake" in the new iPhone XS Max issue, and I responded in THIS thread my experience with THAT... sorry.

I am *STILL* having this bluetooth issue with the radio... 😟

I just upgraded to the X s and have been having all of these same issues with my car connection. It’s extremely annoying and distracting while driving at times. I really hope it gets fixed when they release the next update.

iOS update dropped last night... just installed it this morning. Looking-forward to trying it on my commute (no word yet). The release notes mention a few fixes and one of them said something regarding Bluetooth connectivity. Crossing fingers that it was referring to this issue... but we'll know soon. Stay tuned, boys & girls...

Thanks for the info. Like you, I’ve had previous issues of Bluetooth track selection lag which was eventually sussed out. Just have to wait and see I guess. Been out of town so havent been able to do the logging exercise.
