iOS 12 Bluetooth Uconnect issue

I updated my iPhone 7 to iOS 12, and immediately noticed that there is now a significant lag in song selection when connected to bluetooth in my car's Uconnect head unit. When a new song plays, the song run time is frozen for exactly 30 seconds while the song plays. If I try to toggle next/last track selection using the car's audio controls during this time, nothing happens until the 30 seconds pass, then it changes to the next song. It happens very consistently now with every new song that plays. Also, during some songs it'll do this freeze for 30 seconds where song navigation won't trigger.

Can't overstate how annoying this is. Has anyone else experienced this?

This issue started for me after I upgraded Uconnect to 17.43.01 on my '15 Grand Cherokee on 10/2. I had iOS 12 on my phone already, and I did not have the delay before the Uconnect update. The delay in the radio controlling the phone usually was 30 seconds, but sometimes would be better. There was no change in behavior with the 12.0.1 iOS update.

I did a hard reset of the phone today (vol up, vol down, then hold the power button), and now the issue is almost gone. I did have one instance of a delay at the beginning of the pairing, but it went away after a song or two. It's possible that a hard reset (not a power off) will help some of you.

It will be interesting to see what iOS 12.1 will bring.

I've been working with Apple Support on supplying a video and logs of the issue when occurring. They've been responsive so far, but no solution.

I work for a tech/customer facing company, and when we have incident tickets opened with multiple people reporting the same issue, we start going into P1 status and it's all hands on deck. So far, this issue has 62 people reporting occurrence, I would think that there is some kind of major effort behind the fix. But I'm sure Apple gets all kinds of issue reports, so I don't know their production support cadence.

I have the same issue using ITunes and Spotify. Spotify will actually stop playing for some reason. I drive a 2014 Ram 1500. I updated Uconnect a month or two ago maybe??

Songs won't advance. Using the buttons on the back of the steering wheel, Uconnect display, and phone. None of this will work. I've even had the phone (IPhone 7 plus) not connect to Uconnect.

I have had the same issues. I’ve taken the car to dealership to make sure I had the latest Uconnect software for my Chrysler as well as reset all settings etc on the IPhone XS. Works for a few days then gets worse. I waited for the new IOS 12.1.1 and now same issues again. Any solutions by anyone? Apple have said this has not been a problem really reported by too many but clearly I’m not the only one with this issue.

Yes, very sad and extremely disappointing. It's hard to believe in this day and age that they can't figure this out. I have an iPhone X (original X from last year) running iOS 12.1 and I can't get it to connect to my brand new 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, but the same device/iOS had no problem with my 2013 Toyota Highlander (never had a problem connecting there). Uconnect, and maybe Apple, need to get of their *** and figure this out!!!

I couldn’t agree more! And with multi-billion dollar companies like Apple they still can’t get it right. My I-phone 7 on older iOS worked perfectly until I changed to the XS Max and updated the Apple software. Disgraceful and now I have a Chrysler I paid a fortune for which is partly rendered useless when I spend ages wasting time trying to connect the Bluetooth when it decides it doesn’t want to work.

That does not sound too promising. If this has happened since the release of ios 12 then this must not be a big priority. Uconnect is in all of Chrysler vehicles. It is not like this is in just one vehicle lineup. I supposed the answer is I could get a newer vehicle with Apple Car Play. I am not going to spend that kind of money just to get my music to play in my car. The radio in my truck is fully integrated, so I cannot look at aftermarket head units. I will address this with my dealer, but I don't think they will be able to do much. I don't think replacing parts will fix the issue. I doubt RAM or the dealership will want to pay to upgrade the radio to a newer version with Apple Car play to remedy the issue. I don't even know if they can do that. Hopefully enough people will voice their complaints and Apply will prioritize this. First priority when releasing new OS's should be backwards compatibility, especially with integrated vehicle radios. I am invested in Apple. I have iPhone and Apple Music. If this does not work, I don't have much other options.

I did talk with Chrysler customer support last night. They are going to open a case, and have a Uconnect case manager call me in a few days. They want to work with my dealer and determine that all components are running the correct software versions. They also stated there could be some parts that need replaced. I will provide an update when I know more.
