How do I get rid of the iMessage app bar.

With iOS 12 there is now this really annoying iMessage app bar. I have tried to turn off all but photos... but given the camera already as part of messages, I don’t need a icon in the bar. So how do I get rid of the annoying bar which takes up space!

Hey, Deryl!

Thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you'd like to close the app drawer in Messages. I'm happy to help!

While in a message, look to the left of the text box where your message is typed. You'll see two icons in grey: a camera, and the App Store icon. Tap the App Store icon here to open and close the app drawer. More information on using the app drawer, and iMessage apps, can be found here: Use iMessage apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support .

Cheers!

The solution is in the support document linked above by Becky_s22. For your convenience I will copy and paste again here.

Delete iMessage apps

  1. Open Messages.
  2. Tap User uploaded file to start a new message. Or go to an existing conversation.
  3. Swipe left over the app drawer and tap User uploaded file.
  4. Swipe left over the app, then tap Delete.

Becky, this did not answer my question nor Daryl’s I don’t think. User uploaded file

As you can see in the screenshot, we want to get rid of that entire section below the typing bar section. Like Daryl said, it just takes up space and I have no intentions of ever using it.

You cannot delete those two. You need the Photos icon to be able to access your photo library on the phone, and the App Store to access other app choices if you change your mind. To get it off the screen, tap on the grey App Store icon next to the camera icon, and it will disappear until the next time you open a message and start to type.
