Hi, I updated to ios12 and now the messages that I’m addressing to my daughter go to my husband instead. Nothing has changed other than the update. It doesn’t matter how I input her name or number, the instant I hit send it shows my husband’s name & sends to him. I’ve restarted it several times and am starching my head on this one. Thanks for your help.

Apple did take notice. This was fixed in iOS 12.1.

Did you make sure that everyone is udpated to iOS 12.1 and if necessary delete the infected threads? Restart your phones as well. If that doesn’t help, recreate the contacts for those involved.

iOS 12.0.1 update seems to have resolved this issue. I was facing the same issue till yesterday after the iOS 12 upgrade - me, wife and daughter share apple id and our messages to each other were routed based on who we were texting last. Issue seems resolved once I applied the 12.0.1 patch yesterday (Oct 9).
Like everyone else I had the same type of problem, I was messaging my grandson from my iPad & his mom was getting them, they both have iPhones, looking through these discussion pages everyone was saying the problems happened after a iOS 12.0 update. I then went to my settings for software updates & downloaded software update ios12.1. I passed this on to my daughter & she did the same, the good news is it fixed the problem for us. I’m now getting messages from the correct person and able to send messages without them crossing over. Hope this helps others
12.1 did not work for me either... but another post on a different forum suggested this and it worked for me. In message swipe the person’s name from right to left and click delete. I did that for 2 family members that I had old messages listed. I then created new messages for each of them and the messages went to the correct person.
To close the loop on my issue. I had the same problem BUT updating to 12.1 fixed the problem.
From what I have read, it could help if you delete the entire converged conversation. If you have saved your messages forever, then yes, you would be deleting the entire history with that contact or those contacts if the entire history was contained in one long conversation.

Deleting the text messages with the people impacted cleared up the problem for me, thanks!
same problem for me. my wife and i have always had the same iCloud account so that all our photos combine but i've set up my wife separately since the new iOS.
Doesn't matter which one of us our son iMessages it goes to whichever one of us sent a message to him most recently.
Seems enough people have this problem so hopefully the 'bug' will be rectified soon or we'll be given the work around!
For the time being we're using WhatsApp...
I'd love to be able to combine our photos into one without having to drag them all into a family album manually too.
Yes I read what you posted and I was merely making sure that you double checked everything.
At this point, if you deleted the infected threads, deleted and reentered the contacts, updated all devices to iOS 12.1 and created new individual Apple IDs for all of those whose messages are combining, I would suggest contacting Apple support for help. There is a link in the upper right corner of this website for contacting support.
I talked to ATT and their only advice was to turn off iMessage until Apple gets it figured out. It happens when other people are texting my wife. When it’s iMessage some come to me. Shut off iMessage and now it’s ok. Not a perfect solution but works for now I guess.
Apple chat v helpful. Wasn’t the ID but the iOS update. On the phone mis sending turn off iMessage; restart; turn iMessage back on.

I can’t swear that this does fix it, but update to iOS 12.1.
It may be that whoever you are texting (the iPhone users) is sharing an Apple ID or they did not update to iOS 12.1.
