iTunes doesn’t recognize Xs max

After updating my 2017 X to ios12 and updating my Mac to the new Sierra it no longer recognized my X. It saw my ipad. My phone was seen on other macs just not mine. It only charged it.

After 3hrs on with chat and a phone call my issue is not fixed even uninstalled my securit. I even went to store after a reset to factory didn’t work. The store thought it was a Mac issue after an hour or so, so they reinstalled the OS. Still nothing. I said forget it im getting new Xs Friday I should have no problem. Well guess what, my Xs is not recognized. My iPad is fine but i had not updated to iOS 12 neither.

The other half whom had no issues after updating their 2017 X. However their new Xs is not recognized on their Mac along with the old X is now not recognized.

Somehow I feel I’m being forced to go to iCloud totally and I’m not happy to say the least with my current issue!

They noted here that an additional download was triggered once they rebooted their machine.

If you haven't already done it these steps seem to be generally effective:

Download the current 12.8 installer for iTunes from https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Unlock your iOS device and connect it to USB.

Install iTunes from the .dmg that you've downloaded.

During the installation it should announce that a further software update is required.

Install that and iTunes should see your device.

I had the same problem and after saying I give up working on this for half a day, I googled and found an awesome app that fixed my problem in minutes, iMazing.

I wanted to build my new xsMax using my iPhone 6 backup using iTunes. iTunes just wouldn't recognize by old phone. I downloaded and purchased iMazing and had my new xsMax up and running with my old phone's backup in minutes!

So much more intuitive than iTunes and can even use iTunes backup files, or move data between devices by connecting any two devices using USB.

It sees everything, no bugs. Well worth the cash. Plan to use it as my new backup app for my iPhones and iPads. It can even backup your devices while your Mac is sleeping using mini-iMazing on any schedule you want. I opted for daily. I have moved away from iTunes to a far friendlier third party app on my iMac. I never really understood why Apple would even have dropped backup/restore into iTunes in the first place.

I had this problem, 9:00 PM MST on Sept 27, 2018. I used this forum from Apple and was able to finally solve my issue. My issue was solved after reinstalling itunes, and then going to device manager and doing as THEY say there, letting it look automatically for the update. And it WORKED

Or wait for Apple to release iTunes 12.9 for Mac, which will hopefully coincide with the release of Mojave on Monday.
