New iPhone XS Max “Number changed to Primary” notification in iMessage

When I send text messages to a friend who does not have an iPhone, every time I send a new message or they send a new message the message “Number changed to Primary” appears in the chat display area. It is really annoying and I can’t figure out how to turn it off.

I just upgraded to the new iPhone XS Max. It was delivered to my door, so I set it up. This problem didn’t occur on my old phone. I have logged out of my Apple ID on my old phone as well. Any idea how to fix?

You have to set up the primary and secondary numbers on the XsM

I ended up backing up, then erasing the phone completely. First text I sent had the same message, but it hasn’t done it since. It was a pain, but worth it.

No, I also removed my phone number from iMessage all together and then reactivated it. I believe the link to the webpage to remove your number from the iMessage server is provided above.
