New iPhone XS Max “Number changed to Primary” notification in iMessage

When I send text messages to a friend who does not have an iPhone, every time I send a new message or they send a new message the message “Number changed to Primary” appears in the chat display area. It is really annoying and I can’t figure out how to turn it off.

I just upgraded to the new iPhone XS Max. It was delivered to my door, so I set it up. This problem didn’t occur on my old phone. I have logged out of my Apple ID on my old phone as well. Any idea how to fix?

Using Dual SIM with an eSIM - Apple Support

You have to set up the primary and secondary numbers on the XsM

I had this happen too and I turned off my iMessages and my FaceTime for about 10 mins. Then went and turned them back on sent a few messages and it was gone.

Just got off the phone with a great Apple Support Tech, resetting the network settings does the trick!

It happens on the XR’s too. I went and turned off messages and FaceTime turned them back on. It’s seems to have fixed it.

edit: never mind 5 mins later it came back.

Hey hixxup79 you’ll have to delete all your messages and start fresh for that to completely stop :( it really sucks that’s the only way.

I’m not using a dual sim or anything either and no one at apple can seem to help. I’m getting really frustrated and tempted to drop apple my next upgrade lol
