I used to have full bars at my bed with iPhone X, now the Max only has 2. And it has trouble reconnect to the WIFI after airplane mode is turned on with WIFI turned on.

For more empirical Wifi Data you can download the Airport Utility app (no need to actually have an Apple Airport), and follow the following instructions from https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT203068 to run the scanner utility from your XS and other iOS devices at the same location to get comparative data.
The Wi-Fi scanner in AirPort Utility
Apple’s AirPort Utility includes a Wi-Fi scanner that logs the client’s view of the network. Administrators can use it to validate the client’s view of the network at a specific location.
For accurate results, use the Wi-Fi scanner on a dedicated device that’s the same model as the iOS client.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > AirPort Utility to turn on the Wi-Fi scanner.
Next, open Airport Utility and tap Wi-Fi Scan.
By default, Wi-Fi Scanner runs continuously. Use the slider to set a scan duration of up to 60 seconds.
To start the scan, tap Scan. AirPort Utility lists all the SSIDs that it finds. This includes hidden networks, which appear as "Network name unavailable."
The AirPort Utility scans all available bands at four-second intervals. Enterprise networks that have multiple access points are grouped by BSSID. The scanner shows information about:
To view a trace log of the scan results for an SSID and BSSID, tap the SSID:
The trace log shows the date and time of the scan, along with the channel and RSSI.
After the scan completes, you can share the results. Just tap the share icon (
), then choose one of these options:
AirPort Utility sends the results as a comma-separated list:
SSID, BSS, RSSI, Channel, time
"ACES", "18:64:72
3:E9:40", "-57", "11", "12:02:03 PM"
"Cuba", "F8:1E
F:F9:56:BC", "-53", "149", "12:02:03 PM"
"ACES", "18:64:72
3:E9:50", "-63", "149", "12:02:03 PM"
"Cuba", "F8:1E
F:F9:56:BB", "-69", "11", "12:02:03 PM"
"ACES", "18:64:72
3:E9:40", "-67", "11", "12:02:07 PM"
The first line is a column header that shows the SSID, BSS, RSSI, Channel, and date fields. To analyze or chart the results, import the list into a spreadsheet or other tool.
I agree I returned my XS Max for a full refund now using my 7 plus until the next IOS software update.
Ditto to all the above, LTE also an issue for my Xs. Seems to be an issue Apple, and tech support only offers the basics for me like network settings reset and restore as new. Both no help.
My Xs connects to 2.4GHz while all other devices connects to 5Ghz. Apple has to fix it!
Plus ot mention the device gets hoter just for using an google maps, and worse batter compare with older models.
Online chat. Thats good to hear. At least you got some attention.
What are the chances you guys think they can release a fix before the end of this week? I don't want to lapse the 14 day refund window...
I called Apple Care to complain and was told there were no reports involving this issue and got the patronizing song and dance on how WiFi works. She either was lying or Apple is ignoring us.
There is also a serious issue with the battery not charging. This has turned into a disaster.
Thanks that helps. I will call them back.
I reported the battery charging issue in addition to the WiFi problem.
It will and it is all easily worked around by either enabling USB device access while locked or by simply waking the device when attaching it to a dock or charging cable.
Not a bug, as designed.
II just reset everything and I have the wifi-assist turn on and as soon I leave the room it switches to 4G instead of keeping 5G WiFi...
4G (and for that matter LTE and 5G) are cellular technologies entirely different and separate from WiFi.
Has anyone heard back from Apple after submitting logs? Just curious. Was really hoping to hear something today, but no go.
I haven’t heard anything since submitting my logs. I did return my Xs though. I’m going to stick with my working X for now. I did see that a charging issue has made the news though.
