With the iOS 12 update, overtime I enter my car my voice memo plays without me doing anything. How do I stop it?
My car is in my garage, and I guess because I have wifi coverage there, the last memo still plays. I'm a composer and I sing ideas into the app. It's ridiculously embarrassing when I have a passenger!
For anyone who records a temp memo just in case, I suggest saying, "Remember to tell people not to sit where my Lyft passenger was stabbed. I think that seat is haunted."
I agree. I turned off cellular data. I turned off Bluetooth. But it didn’t solve the problem. I might take the route of deleting the app. Not only it inconvenience but also upsets me. Hopefully they take this issue seriously.
In the future, before losing your voice memos, email them to yourself! That way, you don’t lose them, they just won’t be in the VM app anymore.
i realize that this doesn’t solve the VM issue, but you’d still have your precious recordings... (I’m the same way...)
I have discovered that recording voice memos with the data on causes your phone to upload the recording to a cloud somewhere USING YOUR DATA!!!
Not a problem if you are just blurting for 30 secs, but I record performances for 1-2 hours. That will burn through your data in a hurry!
The only way I’ve found to stop it is to re-open your Voice Memos app and click on any other voice memo… You don’t have to play anything , you just have to click on it and then you can close your voice memo app and it will cease and desist until the next time… I hope *this* message doesn’t get censored as a rant because it’s an actual workaround that helps people get past the glitch...
A few people (including me) have already reported that this doesn’t do anything. Like myself, some have even said that Cellular data was already turned off! And still the problem existed. Another person said that it requires EVERYONE to report the issue directly to apple support. When I phoned them recently, they said they had never heard of this issue before and had no idea how to solve it. I have now written a formal email to their support team so would again suggest that everyone do this. Apple don’t actually read these forums so if you’re going to contact them include a link to this forum page. GOOD LUCK
Apple doesn’t read these forums so isn’t aware that there are thousands of complaints about this issue. I know this because I phoned them about it. It is up to EVERYONE to send apple a complaint via the proper support channels so they know this needs to be fixed So far there has been no solution
I logged onto Apple website then chose support and followed the links. I’m not tech savvy so likely I didn’t follow proper channels either. It’s worth it to phone Apple and ask them how you might best put in a complaint about this specific issue. It’s still bugging me!
Worth noting .... Apple have an MP3 Converter ap which I downloaded on my MacBook. I then converted all my voice memos to mp3 and saved on iTunes then deleted them from the voice memos This saved the frustration of them playing in my car when I have passengers. However, the problem of course is that you can’t access other apps like Maps while voice memo is playing itself - so this has only solved part of the problem.
I am having this exact same issue! Everything that everyone else has said has been happening since the last update. Let me just add this too: Even when I turn the car off, I will still have the memo playing on my phone as a loop. It takes a million clicks for it to finally stop. THIS IS BEYOND FRUSTRATING!!!!! Thank you for any info! One last thing,.. I've seen messages about this dated all the way back to Sept 2018. Why are we still having to deal with this? Disappointing! : (
Thank you so much! I was just on the phone to APPLE CARE today and read them more than half of these posts. The technician then talked with a senior representative and he told him that they are very aware of this issue and are working on it. I will definitely use the link you just posted and will let them know again! Thank you again!!!!
This is what I reported to that link:-
"When a voice memo is recorded it play automatically in the vehicle as if it's a phone call. It happens on a BMW 5 series in carplay or bluetooth. It also happens on a 2014 Honda CRV and 2017 Honda CRV in bluetooth. On all the vehicles it shows a call in progress. Removing cellular for voice memo in settings makes no difference. Only way out is to play an itunes track. This is a safety issue if you start driving and this happens. You will need to find a safe place to stop to get out of this loop by playing an itunes track.
I’m using iPhone X never experienced this issue in my car media player but when I drive friends Toyota car it’s starts playing and can’t find any way to stop. Toyota player detects it as a call. To stop this either stop Bluetooth then you will not get calls. Otherwise go in to aeroplane mode and back on it stops. I faced it in Toyota Prado
Only one thing helped me. I recorded a 1 second silent memo.
Must be sure it is the last memo recorded - so... if you record a new memo... you must also record another subsequent silent memo. Absurd but a stressless workaround.
N.B. I do not use my phone for anything other than calls or navigation in my car - so no iTunes, etc.
2012 VW golf. iPhone SE. Only since the latest upgrade. None of the other suggestions work for me. I always close all apps after using them - that made no difference in my case.
Good Luck All! (And I spoke to Apple on Jan 20 and they say they are working on it.
I found a fix!!!!!!! So you open Apple Music and start hitting a song repeatedly (I did it like 5-7 times) and it eventually says “Call ended” on the screen of your car and voila!!!! No more voice memo!
