Iphone 8 proximity issues (The screen is not coming back)

Dear all apple technician and lovers,

I have experienced some issue with proximity sensor for a few days. after I have finished my call, my screen is not back as usual for me to press red end call button. the screen goes black as it should when I cover proximity sensor. unfortunately when I detach from sensor the screen is not back as it should.

furthermore, I did test proximity sensor with voice memo record function. it can be confirmed that proximity sensor immediately go black screen when I cover the sensor. but when I release my finger, it randomly awake immediately or snooze black screen. what is the solution for this? My hypothesis would be software problem as it work fine sometimes.

PS. Iphone 8 with latest os12

iPhone 8, iOS 12

Hey plimit,

Thanks for reaching out about the issues you're having with the proximity sensor. I'd like to help out.

Have you tried removing the case or screen protector, if it has one? Sometimes a case or screen protector can cause these issues.

In order to test for hardware or software issues, a great step to take is to back up the device and then restore and set it up as new.
Back up the iPhone first: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Restore and set up as new for testing purposes: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings
If your screen is still showing signs of issues with the proximity sensor after restoring as new, then the iPhone most likely has a hardware issue, and you'll want to look into your service options.
