Bluetooth not working on IPhone XS

I just upgraded to the new iPhone XS, and the Bluetooth on my phone won't discover my devices, including a Fitbit and a portable speaker. I've tried all the troubleshooting for previous problems related to Bluetooth issues listed for the IPhone X and IPhone 8 via Apple--ie, restarting the Bluetooth on the phone, restarting all the devices, resetting network settings, making sure my Bluetooth devices are discoverable, etc. Are others having this problem? Is there a solution I am missing?

iPhone Xs, iOS 12

I had the same problem with my new iPhone XS. I had transferred everything over from my iPhone 7. It wasn’t until I went back to my iPhone 7 and unpaired/forgot all of my previously paired devices and then turned Bluetooth on my old iPhone that I was able to connect to my Bluetooth devices on my new phone.

Same Iphone 8 with latest IoS works in all cars but the XS does not work in my Audi TTS or my wifes VW Polo both rather new ones.

Since those are both Volkswagen Group vehicles you may want to check with your dealer to see if any Bluetooth updates have been issued for your cars' entertainment systems.

Also, remember to delete all pairings from both the phone and the vehicle, then re-pair.

I had the exact same problem.. with my XS iPhone. I got the run around from Optus in store they didn’t have a clue and told me Hyundai needed to upgrade my Bluetooth which was absolute crap..

I went outside the store and rang them again one more time and they told me to go to:

settings

general

reset

reset network settings.. it worked..

then turn your phone off and on.. it should work.. good luck. I researched and researched to find this out and managed to get someone that new how to fix the issue.

I hope this helps..

You fix this by removing pairing anything else they might have been connected too... Like my headphones was giving me a hard time until I noticed I moved away from my macbook. Then again when approaching my nexus 5 that has a older les sophisticated bluetooth still took it. from my XS.. So turn of any devices that might use Bluetooth and Wifi routers have something called a dual mode, if yours has one I recommend turning it on. It will give abit slower connections but nothing you’d notice unless it's over ten years old. If you do this the wifi in your apartment or house will stop interffering with your bluetooth devices. Fair reminder, remember that the older gadgets you use that’s bluetooth enabled the more trouble they will have working in unison. Try to keep a standard of Bluetooth 4.2 wireless technology attest and all your devices should workouts fine all att once. Good luck but you shouldn't need it!

I don't see hundreds. That's the number that were interested in the subject, not necessarily the number with the problem. But even assuming hundreds (500?), that's a drop in the bucket of the 100 million sold. And most likely they don't even all have the same problem.

No matter what problem you have, with over 2.2 billion iPhones sold it is just about guaranteed that someone else has the same problem. Knowing that is useless information. And when there is a real problem people do post about it (not just click "I have the same question") as illustrated in this old thread from 7 years ago:

That's almost 13 thousand posts at a time when there were only 100 million phones in use. And that problem affected about 5 million of them. So the very small number of users showing an interest in this current subject demonstrates how rare it is. To get Apple's attention you need to either contact Apple Support using the link at the top of this page or by making a genius bar reservation and demonstrating it to an Apple tech. Those are the sources that Apple uses to identify repeatable problems.

My Bluetooth works, it just won’t connect to my car’s Bluetooth more than once or twice without failing. It connects to my Bose Bluetooth headphones and my Anker external Bluetooth speaker, just not my car stereo.

I bought this gadget from Amazon and now my phone connects to it instead of my car (the device plugs into the aux jack in my car so the audio is still routed through through my car stereo and comes out of my car’s speakers).

It’s not ideal, but it’s a good enough work-around.

If you are trying to sync your Apple Watch like me, here’s the fix:

On the Apple Watch itself, tap settings and hit reset. It will then connect to the xs max via Bluetooth and all will be well. When I got to my car, after doing that...I just hit sync on my phone under Bluetooth and the car matched the code and it works well now. Hope this helps!
