Bluetooth not working on IPhone XS

I just upgraded to the new iPhone XS, and the Bluetooth on my phone won't discover my devices, including a Fitbit and a portable speaker. I've tried all the troubleshooting for previous problems related to Bluetooth issues listed for the IPhone X and IPhone 8 via Apple--ie, restarting the Bluetooth on the phone, restarting all the devices, resetting network settings, making sure my Bluetooth devices are discoverable, etc. Are others having this problem? Is there a solution I am missing?

If you can't connect a Bluetooth accessory to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

I believe both iOS 11 and iOS 12 supported Bluetooth 5.0, but that doesn't mean there isn't a new incompatibility.

I had this problem on my XS Max and had done all the troubleshooting - soft restart, hard restart, toggled bluetooth on and off, reset network settings. My iphone could not detect any bluetooth devices (spinning wheel on the Bluetooth page), could not find other phones for Airdrop. I contacted Apple Support who opened a support case for me. in preparation for returning the phone turned off Find My iPhone (Settings/iCloud, turn Find My iPhone off) and also signed out of Find my iPhone app. Then this morning I noticed i could see other devices to Airdrop, and then managed to pair to my fitbit, bluetooth speaker etc. I turned FMiP back on and signed back in and all seems to be fine! Hope this helps.

I am having the same problems with my Series 4 Apple Watch, they should be really near to each other to have a constant connection. I think there is a problematic situation going on with 2.4 ghz Band wi-fi and Bluetooth. Most of the time I am not able to watch as there is no available known wi-fi networks outside. I don't know how to solve it as I try everything that I can do from resetting watch to setting up everything new. Even whenever I open my airpods' lid, it never show up an animation and also if you hold apple watch waiting for a setup near to phone, it never promotes that there is a new apple watch waiting for a setup.

I had the exact same problem.. with my XS iPhone. I got the run around from Optus in store they didn’t have a clue and told me Hyundai needed to upgrade my Bluetooth which was absolute crap..

I went outside the store and rang them again one more time and they told me to go to:

settings

general

reset

reset network settings.. it worked..

then turn your phone off and on.. it should work.. good luck. I researched and researched to find this out and managed to get someone that new how to fix the issue.

I hope this helps..

You fix this by removing pairing anything else they might have been connected too... Like my headphones was giving me a hard time until I noticed I moved away from my macbook. Then again when approaching my nexus 5 that has a older les sophisticated bluetooth still took it. from my XS.. So turn of any devices that might use Bluetooth and Wifi routers have something called a dual mode, if yours has one I recommend turning it on. It will give abit slower connections but nothing you’d notice unless it's over ten years old. If you do this the wifi in your apartment or house will stop interffering with your bluetooth devices. Fair reminder, remember that the older gadgets you use that’s bluetooth enabled the more trouble they will have working in unison. Try to keep a standard of Bluetooth 4.2 wireless technology attest and all your devices should workouts fine all att once. Good luck but you shouldn't need it!

I have tried this step multiple times and it doesn't work for me. This is a very frustrating issue for sure. I have a 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS and almost every time I start my car I have to repair the iPhone Xs. I never have this problem with my iPhone 8 that I use for work.

My other car (Ford Expedition with Sync) hasn't had the same frequency of this issue. Over the last month I have had to re pair the iPhone Xs twice.

I have also noticed a couple of other interesting bluetooth issues with the iPhone Xs. I have a wireless speaker and I have had no issues having to re pair the Xs to the speaker, but if I take a call and select to use the iPhone instead of using the speaker, the phone at some point will try and switch to using the bluetooth speaker during the call. I switch back to using the iPhone Xs and it will again switch to the speaker. I have to either turn off the bluetooth speaker or I have to disconnect the speaker in the bluetooth setting of the iPhone.

I have none of these issues on my work iPhone 8 and never had an issue with my iPhone 7 before upgrading to the iPhone Xs.

My wife also got an iPhone Xs at the same time I did and she is also having these same issues on the Elantra and with bluetooth speakers.

I have ensured I have the latest software on my iPhone Xs.

Make sure you delete any pairings involving your Xs from the Hyundai and the Hyundai from the Xs. This should work, in theory, as my XS Max has worked in every Hyundai rental car I've had, but I don't know the age of yours.

You may also want to check with your Hyundai dealer to see if there is a firmware update available for your head end, as all of my rental vehicles were 2017 or newer.

I love the canned responses to issues with bluetooth. Let me tell you I had an iPhone 6s without any bluetooth issues, then got the Xs and nothing but headaches ; at least with my Bose Soundlink Mini . It connects I hear the music, then it randomly disconnects in which I can't get it to work again. The iPhone even says it's connected to the Bose but no sound comes out. I then have to go through the whole 'forget device' and repair it - rigamaroar. Now, I challenge any Apple engineer to repair every time you want to use your device and let me know how long it takes for you to want to throw your iPhone out the window ?

I'd be contacting the manufacturer of the other device to find out why it apparently isn't following standards.

Why? Because there are few issues connecting with the vast majority of Bluetooth devices extant, and though new Bluetooth standards are backwards-compatible, that doesn't work if the original device didn't properly implement the spec to begin with.

What does Bose have to say? Have you contacted them to ask?

Same got the new 10xs Max 256 and it won’t pair correctly with my car speakers. The songs sound like a wounded animal. It plays the songs at a super slow speed. Not funny Apple. Did not have any issue with my old 6. It pairs to use hands free for phone calls. But just can’t do music. What is the point of having this great 1300 dollar phone if I can’t listen to my music? Beyond disappointed. Too bad I traded in my old 6.

Apple will never fix it globally, because it is a problem with your phone. If you have failed to solve it with all of the standard troubleshooting steps make a genius bar appointment to have an Apple tech look into it.

You need to put a Bluetooth device into Pairing mode, then go to Settings/Bluetooth and tap its name to connect. Even if the device connected to a previous phone. Depending on the device, you may need to reset it to it's factory settings first, as some devices have a limited number of devices they can pair with at the same time.
