Problem with typing Spotlight search

Recently, when attempting to type in a term for Spotlight search, after a couple characters the search bar disappears. When I reopen, the characters have disappeared. On trying to start over, the bar disappears again. This has rendered Spotlight which I use often unusable. This "seems" to be happening since updating to Sierra. HELP! (please!)

MacBook Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

Why is Spotlight Search textbox disappearing? Whenever I hit my keyboard shortcut [command + option + spacebar] to open Spotlight Search, as soon as I begin typing a couple of letter into the text input field, the text input box closes suddenly. Why is this happening? Is there a fix? I'm running macOS Sierra 10.12.6 on an early 2015 MacBook Pro. Thanks.

spotlight window disappears After entering a single letter the spotlight search field disappears. I have the same issue with the finder search field. Maybe someone has a solution. Latest Monterey 12.3.1 version on a 2017 21'' iMac. Thanks in advance
