Spotlight window just closes after typing some characters

Spotlight window just closes after typing some characters. This problem occurred after update of my macbook air 13 inc, to Sierra. It seems to depend on the characters / what I search. In most cases it crashes after the first character.

When I e.g. search for "micrososoft"

1) it shows result after having typed "m",

2) still shows result when done "mi"

3) crashes as soon as I type the third letter "c"

This happens if I type slow or fast

Some searches will be ok, but many lead to a crash, but consistently depending on the search.

When starting with "p" it's over after typing the p.
