Mine has been fine since the soft reset. I got my 3rd phone a week ago and had to do the soft reset less than 24 hours later. It has been fine so far but I check it daily. I have Apple Care but I want to catch it within that 14 day return window. Other have experienced what you have. Where it works fine but then it stops again after the restore. That is why I am checking mine daily and multiple times a day.

Ya I’m having the same problems the ear speaker works fine on calls but when on YouTube or intagran or anything the ear speaker does not work only the bottom one does. I hope this is not a hardware issue as I just spent $1249 on the iPhone XS Max.
I am having the same problem. Returned one phone and now the new one is starting to do the same thin. I have to do the same thing restart phone in order for it to work again for a little while. This is not acceptable!!!
Happened to me again. (Sixth time after resetting and restarting since the iPhone XS Max purchase). Turning bluetooth off and on did not fix the issue for me. A soft reset or a hard reset resolves the issue until next time. Apple still has not acknowledged this issue. Hoping that this is software related and I am reasonable certain that it is.

Apple has not acknowledged this issue. With my first Xs Max, the Speaker, mic and receiver all failed their hardware test. So far a soft reset seemed to have fixed mine but I am testing it multiple times a day. Hopefully it is software and can be fixed with an update.
No need to do all that just press volume up and volume down and then press and hold power button about 10secs till u see apple logo and after it boots it will be working if u reset all settings u have to go thru setting a lot of stuff back up lol
I’m having the same problem with my iPhone Xs Max. Checked all the settings and everything is right except only the bottom speaker has sound when playing music or videos. The only way to fix it temporarily is to restart the phone and it works for maybe a day or two.
Try doing a a soft reset. Volume up, volume down then hold down the power button until the Apple logo appears. No data loss so don’t fear that. That seemed to have helped mine. I returned two phones already and my 3rd has the same issue but the soft reset seemed to have worked.
My iPhone Xs max earpiece speaker is not working why playing music or YouTube videos. It works fine on calls that are on speaker. Must be a iOS bug. Please fix it ASAP!!!! Spent lots of money on this thing.
That’s interesting, I’ve have this issue and have posted about it and confirmed with other people the issue is also during phone calls on speaker. Can someone else confirm this issue is also with phone calls?

This issue is usually resolved, at least temporarily, by rebooting the phone.
Apple does know there is a bug surrounding this, but it would be speculation to guess at an ETA for a fix.
I've done the full restore and set up as a new iPhone but the issue reoccured. It's also reoccured after updating to today's release of iOS 12.1. It's a real shame the bug fix wasn't in there (I can confirm because my top speaker isn't working literally as I type this) I did however chat with an apple support guy through the apple support app and he said the engineering team was hard at work on this issue.
Yes I’m also facing same issue
Front facing speaker stops working every now and then. Then after restarting the phone it starts working again but for only few hours.
I have also done the factory reset but to no vain
It is still not working
I have paid 109990/- in Indian currency
Around 1500/- dollars for 64gb
Apple should resolve this asap
It is supposed to work not sure what the guy above is talking about, and you aren’t alone with this issue. My top speaker stops working randomly at least once a day. The good news is it’s not a hardware issue. If you turn your phone off and on, you’ll get it to work. Apple really needs to fix this, the audio driver for the top speaker can be hot patched with a software update.
The same has been happening to my iPhone XS max 256 gb since day 1, got this on the launch day in India ..I can't figure is this is a software or a hardware issue..I would appreciate Apple getting back on this.Such a waste of money..
Moi aussi j’ai acheter un iPhone XS pour 1400€ et le haut parleur du haut ne marche pas tout le temps, obliger de redémarrer le téléphone pour si il marche et quelques heures plus tard ça recommence..!
