iPhone XS Max lightning port charging issue

Ive been having the same charging problem and when I wake it it wont start charging till I make the phone, a new 256 xs max, do something like open an app or just remove and then plug in the lightning connector. Im a bit dissapointed that this is the most expensive phone available and it also came with a 5$ charging brick. Im wondering why I went all apple phones, tablets and computer when they are lagging in all aspects of quality, testing and low quality accessories. So add in a fast charger, if it works, and then look at the cost of the phones.

On my iPhone XS Max I turning on the USB Accessories, forced reboot (press up volume button, press down volume button, then press and hold right side button until the iPhone restarts and shows the Apple logo.) Now when I place my iPhone on my wireless charger it shows the green battery charge status icon. Which it didn’t do before. I will continue to work on this under various situations to see if this really is a work around.

I have same issue with charging port when phone is sleeping and connected to cable. I need to wake up phone first then the charge will start. I reported to Apple the issue and hope a fix is released soon...exchanging the phone is not the answer since it seems to be and xs issue

THIS IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE!

I have a used iPhone 6 running iOS 12. After updating my software from 11.x.x, I too have the charging issue. I still have the good old home button so I have to hit that or the power tab on the side to start charging.

It is annoying, yes, but not impossible to manage. However, people paid triple-digit dollars for a device with a factory software defect. One would assume Apple could have found this in their testing phase at some point for the insane prices they regularly ask for.

JRSzo90... Thanks for the suggestion; however, that SAME suggestion has been provided dozens of times on this issue. It doesn’t work for the majority of people; it certainly didn’t work for me. Well, that’s not completely true: Once I toggled on USB Accessories, along with force quitting out, it charged ONCE during sleep mode and then stopped. I’m back to being able to charge only by plugging in the lightening cable while the Xs Max is awake (at least I have that). This definitely appears to be a software issue. At least I hope so. APPLE ARE YOU READING THESE THREADS???!!!

My iPhone8 is also doing this after upgrading to iOS12. It refuses to wake up and will charge for a total of 2 seconds before it just stops. I have tried an apple cable in my Dell laptop, a battery pack, and an apple wall charger. The Google Project Fi battery pack is the only thing that will consistently charge it.

Best new feature of iOS12: Apple developed the anti-charging feature. The ultimate act of control from Apple, we only get to charge when they want us to.

Mine iPhone XS Max seems to only have this issue when it comes to using a (reputable) 3rd party USB charger with PD. However, when I use that same charger with my dad’s iPhone 8 Plus, it has no issues charging. Very frustrating.

@William: yeah but unlocking the phone before start should NOT be necessary.

What the majority of people are experiencing is that the iPhone will sometimes/always not start charging (USB accessories option enabled) when

1. They put the phone into idle mode (display off)

2. Wait for a few minutes / >=one houre,

3. And then plug in wall charger

However, in my case it will start charging immediately when I activate the display.

I also tried a hard reset but it didn't work for me.

So, I hope next iOS update will fix this.

In the new Apple update software (iOS 12.0.1), It states that it fixes this problem. I don't know if it is true because, well I don't have an iPhone Xs, but I really want one. Anyways, try the new update.

Uhhh switching it won’t make a difference. I swapped my Silver 64GB Max about an hour ago for a 256GB gold model. It too has the problem smh.

Both my max and my husbands xs are doing this on all of our chargers including USB c. I’ve had to move my phone to another area to charge so the constant chiming doesn’t make my head explode!

I have had an issue with iPhone X, where the phone actually charges (full charge the next morning) but the phone doesn't indicate that it is charging. Re-inserting usually fixes it.
