iPhone XS Max lightning port charging issue

Ive been having the same charging problem and when I wake it it wont start charging till I make the phone, a new 256 xs max, do something like open an app or just remove and then plug in the lightning connector. Im a bit dissapointed that this is the most expensive phone available and it also came with a 5$ charging brick. Im wondering why I went all apple phones, tablets and computer when they are lagging in all aspects of quality, testing and low quality accessories. So add in a fast charger, if it works, and then look at the cost of the phones.

I never noticed this issue, but when i tested it with the official charger that came with the box i experience exactly the same charging errors.

When i test it with my normal 2.1 amp charger (anker 5 ports) and then i have no errors.

I think it's an amp threshold where 1 amp just isn't enough to get it charging properly.

Temporary solution, use a aftermarket 2.1 amp charger.

Apple should have included an 2.1 amp charger at least.

I discovered this problem last night on a 5 day old XS and spoke to Apple support, then a support supervisor. They pulled diagnostics from my phone. It doesn’t always start charging when plugged in - I have to touch it to wake it up before I hear the ‘ding’ and see the battery symbol. USB restriction settings made no difference. Reboots made no difference. It is not 100% repeatable, but the problem exists. I was able to duplicate the problem 10 or more times while on the phone with support. They are working on it. Jim

iPhone Xs Max 64gb silver model. Same problem. Never noticed it because I usually plug it in while watching something on twitch and then fall asleep with it on and the charging remains going while the phone goes off. Unfortunate, but hopefully Apple issues a fix/replacement soon.

i have the same issue, i bought an Xs Max 2 days before.

When the screen is off and i plug the cable in, nothing happens. Sometimes it begins charging when i tap on the screen, sometimes don't!

Most of the times i need to re-plug the cable to start charging.

I am thinking returning the device and get a refund. That not supposed to happen on a device of 1500€...

So when my phone is locked and i try to charge it ,it will not charge , even if i wake it up , and i have an i phone xs max so thats a really big problem for me because the last 2 days i like put my phone in the charger and wake up and go to school to find out my new i phone isnt charged .

Someone I know said "It’s a security feature that was added in iOS 12, it turns the port off when the phones been locked for an hour, you can disable the feature in the Face ID and passcode menu." I don't have the iphone Xs, can this be verified?

The guy over at UnboxTherapy is saying someone who claims to be an Apple employee (or former employee) has anonymously tipped him off to a potential reason behind these issues. Time will tell. Maybe Apple will put something out tomorrow.

Having pretty much the same problem, only mine charges with my iMac pc. When it does this the batter gets hot. Does your batter get hot when it charges? It didn't use to and it would seem that all this started after an update. Hope it's fixed soon.

I am having major issues as well! I finally updated my iOS 2 weeks ago. My headphones and mic do not work. I cannot use Siri or voice text. I cannot put my phone on speaker on a call and cannot hear when someone calls.

I normally do not complain about Updates but the fact I cannot use my phone for phone calls is ridiculous.

I feel this is a software issue. My new iPhone Xs does the same thing, if I plug it in with the lightning cable, and charger, it occasionally won't recognize the charger, yet no such problem happens when I use the wireless charging. I even went to the Genius Bar where no problem was found with my lightning port.

I recently bought a Brand New Iphone XS Max (about 4 days ago) and it seems impossible to charge the phone! So frustrating. I plug the phone in and it takes an upwards of 3+ hours of solid charging and non-use of the phone to accomplish a 100% charge.

Has anyone else experienced this same issue? Is there anything that can help to fix this? I am using the standard issue Apple Square Charging Port and Lightening Cable that were included in my iPhone Max box.

On my iPhone XS Max I turning on the USB Accessories, forced reboot (press up volume button, press down volume button, then press and hold right side button until the iPhone restarts and shows the Apple logo.) Now when I place my iPhone on my wireless charger it shows the green battery charge status icon. Which it didn’t do before. I will continue to work on this under various situations to see if this really is a work around.

Yes, I too have this issue. Phone doesn’t charge if plugged in whilst asleep.

I also have an issue when I plug it in to my iMac via USB. iTunes sees it, but I get a message on the Mac saying ‘a software update is required to connect to this phone’. It then tries to download the update and says ‘can’t install the update as it is not available.’

The phone constantly starts and stops charging.

All my software is up to date.

I've tried turning on USB Accessories and then force restart my iPhone xs max. After doing that I'm not facing any issue for the past 17hours... Definitely am sure that this is a software related issue...
