iPhone XS Max lightning port charging issue

So Just got my new iphone. and noticed this issue I've been having. I connect the lightning cable to my phone to charge and most of the time it’s automatically charges. However I’ve noticed several times plugging the phone in and no charge comes up. Tried unplugging and plugging back in, sometimes it’ll work. I started to test it out. And I noticed the times I plugged it in, and I get no charge, I‘d leave the phone alone for 10-15 seconds. I pick it up, the screen illuminarea and then the charging symbol pops up. ive Tested these only with apple cables. So I’m thinking it’s either a port issue or possibly software. Any ideas or recommendations ?

thanks.

I am having this issue as well. I cannot tell if it is related to software, haven’t really paid attention to that part. I have an official 29w apple adapter with official Apple USB C power cable, as well as an aftermarket charger. Even today getting off work, i tried to connect it to my car charger and same issue. I set up an appointment with my carrier tomorrow and will be switching the phone.

I have had the same issue with my iphone x 256gb since updating to ios12, i could charge my phone through a wireless charging pad, my macbook usb c charger and through a third party cable in my car however i couldnt charge with my iphone or ipad charger. I could also charge through connecting to my macbook but my phone wouldnt appear in itunes

Spoke to apple who eventually sent me to a locan apple reseller, their only advice was to pay for a replacement phone (£550) as i had a missing pin in my lightning port but couldnt explain how even with this missing pin i was able to charge with some chargers

I have an iPhone X and use two wireless chargers (one on my nightstand, one at work). They're both RavPower RP-PC013 (Wireless Charging Pad Stand). At home,I noticed that the LED ring was flashing when I put the phone on it and the phone wasn't charging. I thought the charger might be bad. Just found the same thing at the office. I restarted the phone and now the charger and phone are working normally. I did install the 12.1 public beta Thursday or Friday, I believe.

I noticed that except my iPhone XS Max, happens to several devices I updated to iOS 12. It happened to my iPad air 1 and my wife's X, so apparently it is a software issue of the iOS12. I really hope that today or this week we can have some news or an update from Apple, in other times this could have been already settled. At least they should say something, make a statement.

THIS IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE!

I have a used iPhone 6 running iOS 12. After updating my software from 11.x.x, I too have the charging issue. I still have the good old home button so I have to hit that or the power tab on the side to start charging.

It is annoying, yes, but not impossible to manage. However, people paid triple-digit dollars for a device with a factory software defect. One would assume Apple could have found this in their testing phase at some point for the insane prices they regularly ask for.

I have the same problem with my iPhone XS Max. Bought it on Saturday, and got it back to the Birmingham shop (UK) on Sunday. They replaced the phone but the new one has the same issue. The shop have no idea about the problem that are affecting the XS Max phones or either how to procedure. Still with a broken phone and no idea about how to procedure. It's a huge shame and a big disappointment

Hello guys I saw one of the YouTube guys. And think this may help.

If you go to settings// Face ID and passcode// scroll all the way down and look for USB accessorie this option is off by default. Turn it on.

Basically this prevents to connect USB accessories from connecting when the phone is lock for mid than 1:00 hour.

Looks like it is something going on with that feature.

Note: That fixed the problem with the charging issues for me, but looks like this feature doesn’t work the way it is. Hopefully this issue will be fixed in the next software update.

So, I used to have the issue, until I went to the FaceID & Passcode part of the settings. When I went to the menu and scrolled down, there was an option, called "USB Accessories" that was turned off. It basically makes it so that if the iPhone is idle for more than an hour, the phone won't recognize any external usb connections as a security feature. When I turned the option on, everything worked fine. It seems that there might be a flaw in the OS where if the feature is turned off, the phone won't recognize a cable that's trying to just charge the phone.

Tl;DR- Go to FaceID & Passcode in settings, turn on USB Accessories. It should work fine after that.

I am facing the same issue on my iPhone XS Max. If I try to connect the cable when the phone is in sleep, it doesn't charge. When I tap the screen to wake it after connecting the cable, it starts charging. But the important thing I noticed was that, if you have the phone awake and then you lock it and try to connect cable immediately with the screen off, it wakes up and shows that it's charging. But if you leave it in sleep for about 10-15 minutes and then try to connect the cable without waking the screen, it does not charge.

I spoke to three different apple support advisors. The first one told me to turn on: Settings --> Face ID & Passcode --> USB Accessories. But it didn't help. The second rep asked me to try using different cables and adapters. It didn't help either. The third one asked me to try toggling the USB Accessories option again and asked me to force restart the phone. But that also did not help. Finally, they asked me to bring it in to have a look. Hoping it's just software issue!

EASY AND SIMPLE SOLUTION READ HERE:

Hey guys!

You guys are probably very concerned and worried but don’t be! It is actually a security feature designed by Apple to detect and protect from unwanted/unknown accessories! Most of the phones come with the protection on! To simply allow access to charge when your phone locked, go to “settings” then click “Face ID and passcode” log in, scroll down to where it says allow access when locked and see if your “USB accessories” is off, switch it on to green if that’s the case and then it should allow you to charge with a lock phone now! :) hopefully this helps clear up confusion! This feature is on most of the new iPhones now! It’s just a security issue!

This is not just an iPhone X issue. My iPhone 7 plus exhibits the exact same behavior. It started right after the last OS software update, so it must be a software issue. Lets hope the fix it in the next update!
