iPhone XS Max lightning port charging issue

So Just got my new iphone. and noticed this issue I've been having. I connect the lightning cable to my phone to charge and most of the time it’s automatically charges. However I’ve noticed several times plugging the phone in and no charge comes up. Tried unplugging and plugging back in, sometimes it’ll work. I started to test it out. And I noticed the times I plugged it in, and I get no charge, I‘d leave the phone alone for 10-15 seconds. I pick it up, the screen illuminarea and then the charging symbol pops up. ive Tested these only with apple cables. So I’m thinking it’s either a port issue or possibly software. Any ideas or recommendations ?

thanks.

I am having this issue as well. I cannot tell if it is related to software, haven’t really paid attention to that part. I have an official 29w apple adapter with official Apple USB C power cable, as well as an aftermarket charger. Even today getting off work, i tried to connect it to my car charger and same issue. I set up an appointment with my carrier tomorrow and will be switching the phone.

I solved by turning off the USB accessories option! I really hope it's not a hardware problem! But at this point I think it's a software problem, considering that the problem was also found on iphone 10. do you know if there are updates about the problem?

the thing that makes me angry and that apple should (in theory) officially communicate this problem, at least inform users! god bless the youtube channels, watching a video I realized the problem! as I said earlier in my trusted apple store no shop assistant knew nothing!

I noticed this on my GFs Ipad Pro 12'9 when i upgraded to IOS 12, i thought it was just a problem with our charger! Tested it on with 3 other chargers and this issue is the same. I have to wake the Ipad up and then put in the charger cable or wake it after putting in the charger.

No problems however with my Iphone 7 or my GF's Iphone 8 plus that runs IOS 12.

I too have experienced the Issue that users have been experiencing when charging their new iPhone XS/XS Max without waking it up from a deep sleep. Before, It would not begin charging without waking up the display once the cord was plugged in. What you need to do is go to Settings, Face ID & Passcode and scroll down to the bottom to the “Allow Access While Locked” menu and toggle on USB accessories. Once toggled on, your phone will charge regardless of being awake or locked in sleep mode. It worked for me and hope this helps all of you! No phone swap required!

JRSzo90... Thanks for the suggestion; however, that SAME suggestion has been provided dozens of times on this issue. It doesn’t work for the majority of people; it certainly didn’t work for me. Well, that’s not completely true: Once I toggled on USB Accessories, along with force quitting out, it charged ONCE during sleep mode and then stopped. I’m back to being able to charge only by plugging in the lightening cable while the Xs Max is awake (at least I have that). This definitely appears to be a software issue. At least I hope so. APPLE ARE YOU READING THESE THREADS???!!!

No, they aren't.

I have this same issue. I woke up this morning to a battery level of around 80% and thought it was odd. Then I put it on the wireless charger while I responded to emails and such to top it off. It then was brought to my attention that this was a potential problem with the iPhone Xs Max. To my disappointment, I tested my iPhone Xs Max 256gb with the lightning cable and it does not charge AT ALL. I am very frustrated that I spent $1,250 on a phone and it does not even charge. Apple fix your product!

I really love my phone and I still haven’t sent my 8 Plus back in for my trade in just in case i’ll have to take this back. Yesterday my XS Max would start running warmer than usual doing mundane tasks. I think it’s due to poor signal and the phone keeps spending extra battery power searching. I have not had a full 4 bars to my knowledge since i’ve upgraded. There was one day my phone just would not recognize my 5Ghz home wifi band. I literally had the 8 Plus and XS side by side, and the XS failed to see it. I understand that poor cell reception is more ambiguous as to the cause - could be the phone or the AT&T network. But to not find my WiFi ain’t cool.

I know there are a lot of posts, but you have to read them before asking questions that have been already answered. If you iPhone charges after unlocking, then it is not a bug, but a new security feature that can be turned off in settings. If it still won't charge after unlocking, then you have a problem that should take you to the Apple store.

Possible Hack to try until apple figures out the issue.

My iPhone XS max is experiencing the same charging issues. Most of the time it does not charge regardless what I do while it is powered on. I am beginning to believe this bug is a software issue and not a hardware issue (hopefully) by I have found a workaround that seems to get it to charge every time. When I need to charge my phone I first turn the device off then plug it in. One the lightning cable is plugged in I allow the phone to turn on on its own and after it will continue to charge until I choose to unplug it (regardless of how long I leave the phone unused/locked).

My iPhone8 is also doing this after upgrading to iOS12. It refuses to wake up and will charge for a total of 2 seconds before it just stops. I have tried an apple cable in my Dell laptop, a battery pack, and an apple wall charger. The Google Project Fi battery pack is the only thing that will consistently charge it.

Best new feature of iOS12: Apple developed the anti-charging feature. The ultimate act of control from Apple, we only get to charge when they want us to.
