iPhone XS Max lightning port charging issue

So Just got my new iphone. and noticed this issue I've been having. I connect the lightning cable to my phone to charge and most of the time it’s automatically charges. However I’ve noticed several times plugging the phone in and no charge comes up. Tried unplugging and plugging back in, sometimes it’ll work. I started to test it out. And I noticed the times I plugged it in, and I get no charge, I‘d leave the phone alone for 10-15 seconds. I pick it up, the screen illuminarea and then the charging symbol pops up. ive Tested these only with apple cables. So I’m thinking it’s either a port issue or possibly software. Any ideas or recommendations ?

thanks.

I am having this issue as well. I cannot tell if it is related to software, haven’t really paid attention to that part. I have an official 29w apple adapter with official Apple USB C power cable, as well as an aftermarket charger. Even today getting off work, i tried to connect it to my car charger and same issue. I set up an appointment with my carrier tomorrow and will be switching the phone.

While many misinterpreted or misunderstood. The USB accessories settings, it is not a cure all for the issue. My phone, when connected to my Belkin phone/watch stand exhibits very odd behavior. The phone cycles charge on/off almost every few seconds regardless of USB accessories setting or screen lock. This doesn’t happen with my old 6s nor my wife’s SE. I have tried this on 2 different stands with the same result. I think something still stinks in the charging software.

The solution turning on the option in settings does not seem to be very sustainable for everyone. Even with the option enabled, my iPhone XS doesn't always recognize the charger in standby. But every now and then it also works, for example when trying to charge my iPhone in the morning. But if I try it again after 5 minutes, it refuses to charge. Weird...

In general, it can be said that the problem is very opaque, since there is no uniform error pattern throughout.

But I'm sure that Apple can and will fix it with an update. Depending on how deep the problem is, I'm not sure if it's done with 12.1, or if it needs further updates.

Not a nice thing, but I can live with it right now (use wireless charging or activate the display before charging with cable).

I have an iPhone 7S and I believe it’s software related. When I downloaded and installed IOS 12 I too have developed the same troubles as the new phones. I didn’t have this trouble before. Having an older model rumors told me it was a way to push purchasing a new phone. After reading in my local Daily News newspaper NYC and wTching the YouTube video I realize it’s the new software.

Wish there was a way to go back to the older version of operating system.

I also had the same problem with using the lightning to 3.5mm headphone adapter. Music was playing through the speakers not my headphones! But I’ve tried a lightning to hdmi adapter and not had an issue. Could be the phone was awake already. But leaving it connected for a bit it would still be connected. But charging still required waking up the phone...hope this gets fixed in a IOS update shortly....Apple are you listening to people?

@William: yeah but unlocking the phone before start should NOT be necessary.

What the majority of people are experiencing is that the iPhone will sometimes/always not start charging (USB accessories option enabled) when

1. They put the phone into idle mode (display off)

2. Wait for a few minutes / >=one houre,

3. And then plug in wall charger

However, in my case it will start charging immediately when I activate the display.

I also tried a hard reset but it didn't work for me.

So, I hope next iOS update will fix this.

I have got iPhone Xs Max which has same issue that people talking about it. It doesn’t charge or wake up when I plug in the charger it came with. However there is no issue seen when I use my old iPhone 6s Plus charger. Regardless how long the iPhone has been sleep, it does charge immediately when I plug it in with old charger.

I believe issue is from cable or the charger itself while everyone saying it’s the iPhone which has hardware or software issue. This is just my experience and opinion which I hope help people.
